Job summary

Jacobs Engineering Group Inc. in Billings, MT, is seeking an Intermediate Environmental Engineer/Geologist/Scientist to advance environmental site characterization and remediation for government and private clients.

Based in Billings, you will spend about 70% of your time in the field and 30% in the office, in a hybrid work environment. A BS in engineering or geology with 2–5 years of experience and a 40-hour HAZWOPER certification are required; a Master's and CERCLA/RCRA familiarity are a plus.

Qualifications

  • BS in engineering, geology or related field.
  • 2–5 years delivering environmental site characterization/remediation projects.
  • Willingness to travel up to 70%, including local and regional travel.
  • Experience overseeing subcontractors and field data collection.
  • Knowledge of chain-of-custody procedures and data evaluation.
  • 40-hr HAZWOPER certification or ability to obtain.
  • Valid driver's license for travel to sites.

Responsibilities

We're looking for an Intermediate Level Environmental Engineer/Geologist/Scientist to grow their career at Jacobs – where we'll empower you to learn and grow in the delivery of environmental site characterization and remediation projects for government and global private-sector clients to make our world better.

Based in Billings, Montana, you'll work with other geologists, engineers, scientist, subject matter experts, and project managers on exciting projects in which you will learn from others and pass along your knowledge. You'll gain valuable experience in soil and groundwater sampling as well as drilling and subcontractor oversight, spending about 70% of your time in the field. You'll balance your field work with some time spent in the office evaluating and reviewing data, writing reports and preparing project documents, coordinating logistics for field activities, and assisting in task management.

Estimated approximately 70% of your time will be spent on field project work (on job sites) and the other 30% of your time will consist of office work that will be completed in a hybrid work environment (you'll be afforded the flexibility to work from both the office as well as from home as best suited to meet project delivery goals while maintaining balance).

Here's What You'll Do:
  • Support and lead / manage local field projects
  • Conduct work local to Billings, Montana; but also travel to support work outside the region
  • Collaborate and coordinate with project managers, subcontractors, internal support staff, and subject matter experts
  • Conduct vapor intrusion assessments and collect environmental air and soil vapor samples
  • Assist with planning, implementation, long-term monitoring, and evaluation of vapor intrusion mitigations systems
  • Analyze data, prepare technical reports and design and implement pilot studies and remedial systems

Here's what you'll need
  • Bachelor's degree in engineering, geology, or other closely related degree
  • 2 to 5 years of professional experience with delivering environmental site characterization and remediation projects, including fieldwork methodology/procedures and assessment/evaluation of data for various environmental media
  • Willingness to perform field work and travel up to 70% (includes local travel in the Billings, MT area, as well as travel outside of the region)
  • Experience working on project sites and overseeing subcontractors
  • Experience collecting environmental field data, collecting environmental samples, and following chain of custody procedures
  • Strong attention to detail when conducting field work and evaluating data
  • 40-hr HAZWOPER certification or the ability to attain this certification
  • Possession of a valid driver's license and ability to safely operate company vehicles and travel to project sites throughout the region
Ideally, You'll Also Have:
  • Experience collecting: indoor/outdoor air, soil vapor, and sub-slab vapor samples; as well as soil and groundwater samples
  • Experience setting vapor pins and conducting pre-sampling building surveys
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills with coworkers, contractors, the public, and clients
  • Master's degree in engineering, geology, or other closely related degree
  • Familiarity of United State Environmental Protection Agency regulations including CERCLA and RCRA

The base salary range for this position is $61,700.00 to $93,280.00. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training.
