Job description

OpenScope Studio is a small firm (15 people) operating throughout California, with offices in San Francisco and Los Angeles. Much of our current work is housing at a variety of scales, spanning multiple typologies: multifamily ADUs, co-living, multifamily, and single family. We also design commercial tenant improvements and have collaborated with larger firms on public projects.

We are seeking an designer or architect to serve in a job captain role. The ideal candidate has strong Revit skills, working familiarity with the California Building Code, and experience carrying projects through construction documents. This is a position for someone ready to own the technical coordination of a project, help direct the work of other staff, and take on some project management responsibilities. We are looking for a long-term contributor who appreciates the potential for career growth at a growing firm, and who can effectively multitask on a daily basis.

This position is based in either our San Francisco or Los Angeles location but we will not consider fully remote candidates or anyone not currently living in California.

Job Description
  • Serve as job captain on a project team, coordinating the technical development and integrity of drawing sets.
  • Prepare and manage construction drawings for contractors and permit agencies using Revit.
  • Prepare program and schematic proposals, project layouts, and design options in 2D and 3D using Revit.
  • Coordinate consultants with guidance from senior staff and help manage day-to-day project execution using spreadsheets, Asana, and other digital tools.
  • Make site visits to document existing conditions and communicate them to other staff.
  • Help maintain and enforce existing BIM standards, and support the development of junior team members.
Qualifications
  • Currently physically located in the San Francisco Bay Area or the Los Angeles area.
  • Min. 3 years of experience in a U.S. architecture office (post-graduation).
  • Demonstrated experience preparing construction documents, with samples of this work.
  • An architectural degree from an accredited school.
  • Advanced proficiency with Revit in a professional office environment across all phases of design. Candidates who have worked on projects in the Autodesk cloud are preferred.
  • Familiarity with the California Building Code.
  • Familiarity with wood frame construction and drawing construction details.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • A professional level of diligence, and evidence that you understand the value of double-checking, proofreading, asking questions, and otherwise paying attention to the job at hand.
  • Licensure is not required, but demonstrated progress toward it is a plus.
  • Must be comfortable with remote work using the Google Suite, Autodesk BIM 360, Bluebeam, and other online collaboration tools.
Benefits
  • 100% employer-paid health insurance with dental option.
  • Partial work from home available (must be in the office 3 days a week minimum).
  • Employer-matched (100% match to 4% of salary) 401K.
  • 10 days PTO plus sick leave and 11 paid holidays.
  • Employer-paid life insurance.
  • Reimbursement for ARE exam costs.
  • The employer will provide a laptop and software needed to perform the work, unless the employee prefers to use their own equipment.
  • Salary commensurate with experience based on the range listed.
