The Intermediate Commissioning Engineer will support and execute commissioning activities for high-voltage substation EPC and turnkey projects. You will help develop and implement commissioning plans and perform testing of primary and secondary systems, including transformers, GIS, circuit breakers, protection relays, SCADA systems, and control equipment, to ensure safe and reliable energization. Working closely with senior commissioning personnel, engineering, construction, OEMs, and client teams, you will troubleshoot technical issues, support project milestones, and contribute to successful project delivery. This role requires strong organizational skills, technical aptitude, and the ability to manage multiple priorities while maintaining a strong focus on safety, quality, and customer requirements.

How You’ll Make an Impact
  • Develop and implement commissioning plans, schedules, and procedures for high-voltage substations, supporting readiness for energization and isolation/permit-to-work processes.
  • Perform testing and commissioning of primary and secondary equipment, including transformers, GIS, circuit breakers, protection relays, SCADA systems, communication systems, and control panels.
  • Execute functional testing, point-to-point checks, system integration, troubleshooting, and energization activities under the guidance of senior commissioning personnel.
  • Coordinate with project managers, OEMs, engineering teams, construction personnel, and client representatives to align commissioning activities with project schedules and objectives.
  • Ensure compliance with applicable IEC, IEEE, NERC, OSHA, and client-specific standards while maintaining accurate commissioning documentation, test reports, quality records, and as-built documentation.
  • Support Siemens Energy's Zero Harm safety program and site-specific safety requirements while contributing to safe, high-quality project execution.
What You Bring
  • Degree: Bachelor's degree in Power Systems, Electrical Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent work experience.
  • Experience: 3 to 5 years of experience in electrical testing and commissioning, preferably within high-voltage substations, transmission, distribution, renewable energy, or industrial power projects.
  • Ability to interpret single-line diagrams, schematics, wiring diagrams, protection drawings, and test procedures, with working knowledge of high-voltage equipment, protection systems, and substation controls.
  • Strong understanding of OSHA regulations, environmental compliance, and safety management on high-voltage sites.
  • Strong communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills, with the ability to multitask and remain calm under pressure while supporting critical infrastructure construction and commissioning activities.
  • Applicants must be legally authorized for employment in the United States without need for current or future employer-sponsored work authorization. Siemens Energy employees with current visa sponsorship may be eligible for internal transfers.
