Job summary

CFS, a Fortune 500 commercial property and casualty insurer based in Naperville, IL, is seeking an Intermediate Accountant to join a growing accounting team. The role offers exposure to complex GAAP financial reporting, reinsurance accounting, and month-end close in a fast-paced environment.

The ideal candidate will have 3+ years of accounting experience, strong financial reporting skills, and advanced Excel; PeopleSoft experience is a plus.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance.
• 3+ years of accounting experience.
• Strong financial reporting experience required.
• Solid understanding of GAAP accounting principles.
• Experience working in a high-volume, transactional environment.
• Experience supporting multiple entities or business units preferred.
• Advanced Microsoft Excel skills.
• PeopleSoft experience is a plus.
• Property & Casualty insurance accounting experience is a plus.
• Strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills.
• Self-starter with the ability to work independently in a deadline-driven environment.

Responsibilities

• Prepare GAAP financial statements, reporting packages, journal entries, and supporting schedules.
• Perform account reconciliations, research discrepancies, and resolve reconciling items.
• Handle reinsurance accounting, reporting, and reconciliations.
• Prepare monthly and quarterly reinsurance bordereau for brokers.
• Monitor cash settlements with profit centers and reinsurers.
• Support month-end close while ensuring all reporting deadlines are met.
• Assist with internal and external audits.
• Identify and implement process improvements to enhance accounting efficiencies.
