Job Summary

The Libraries at CU Boulder encourage applications for an Interlibrary Loan (ILL) Technician! The Technician plays a critical role in supporting the University Libraries' interlibrary loan lending and document delivery services. Using resource sharing and library platforms such as ILLiad, Occam’s Reader, RSCVD, and FOLIO, this role ensures the accurate and timely processing of daily ILL lending requests and Document Delivery services for CU Boulder patrons, as well as for national and international libraries. The technician collaborates with other Resource Sharing Section members to support various resource sharing activities as required. This position reports to the Head of Resource Sharing and works in close collaboration with the Lending Operations Manager and Resource Sharing Section members.

Responsibilities

What Your Key Responsibilities Will Be

Processes Article Requests for ILL Lending and Document Delivery

  • Processes and fulfills article and chapter requests for ILL Lending and Document Delivery in a timely manner with attention to detail and accuracy. This includes monitoring incoming requests, conducting searches in the local catalog and other discovery tools, and verifying articles for accuracy. This position ensures requests are processed efficiently and accurately.

Processes Physical Items for Loan and Document Delivery

  • Ensures the timely and accurate delivery of all print ILL Lending and Document Delivery requests for materials held at the PASCAL Offsite Storage Facility and materials held at campus branch libraries. This requires daily monitoring of requests as well as follow-up with the various locations.
  • Performs searching and retrieving of physical items from locations in Norlin Library, some of the items can be large and heavy, up to 30 lbs.
  • Performs shelf checks to ensure accuracy, and search for missing and lost items.
  • Scans chapters and articles using an overhead scanner and a microform scanner and associated software.
  • Processes items returned by other libraries. Notes damage and routes items accordingly.

Student Lead

  • Along with the Operations Managers, the Lending technician assists in supervising student employees including coordinating and assigning work, answering questions, and training students.

Resource Sharing Services

  • Assists with various resource-sharing initiatives as needed, supporting the broader goals of the Resource Sharing Section.

What You Should Know

  • The work schedule is Monday - Friday, 8 hours per day. Flexible start times and end times may be available; we will discuss this more in interviews.
  • Modality is primarily on-site.

What We Can Offer

  • The salary for this position is $42,500 (set based on pay equity and within the 1st quartile). If you have prior state-classified experience in the same class series as this position, your pay may be set at a higher amount per the state Step Pay Program implemented on July 1, 2024.

What We Require

  • Two (2) years of proven experience in an occupation related to the work assigned to this position or a combination of related education can substitute for the experience on a year for year basis.
  • Must be a current resident of Colorado to apply.
  • Able to lift up to 30 lbs.

What We Would Like You To Have

  • Experience in interlibrary loan or resource-sharing services.
  • Familiarity with ILLiad or other interlibrary loan management systems.
  • Experience using scanning equipment and associated software, including overhead and microform scanners.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Google Sheets, and office productivity software.
  • Knowledge of MARC records and bibliographic metadata.
  • Understanding of library classification systems and searching strategies in order to conduct searching of the local catalog and discovery tools.
