Job summary

Jobtailor is seeking an experienced Mechanical Engineer to lead interior subsystem design and release. You will craft 3D geometry, GD&T, and production-ready drawings, collaborating with design, manufacturing, and supply chain teams in Long Beach, CA.

The role requires 5+ years designing interior subsystems, strong Catia/Enovia skills, and a track record in automotive launches. You will lead projects and contribute to cross-functional teams while delivering high-quality, efficient designs.

Qualifications

  • B.S. in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • 5+ years designing, developing, and releasing interior subsystems and related parts.
  • 3+ years using 3D CAD software collaboratively (NX, Catia, 3DX, etc.).
  • 2+ years of team lead experience.
  • 1+ year in production release process and factory launches.
  • Strong GD&T knowledge and hands-on automotive launch experience.
  • Experience with Confluence, Jira, Asana, or similar tools.

Responsibilities

  • Create and develop system requirements and specifications with design, supply chain, and core teams.
  • Set vehicle-aligned targets for function, cost, weight and investment.
  • Develop 3D geometry and innovative concepts to solve crash load cases.
  • Optimize designs with analytical and physical assessments per federal regs.
  • Deliver craftsmanship and GD&T alignment in production-ready designs.
  • Study novel construction techniques and drive to production feasibility.
  • Coordinate with Studio, Packaging, Engineering, Manufacturing, and Suppliers.
  • Present concepts and status to senior management and Company personnel.

Job description

  • Create and develop Hard Trim System requirements and specifications while developing geometry and the engineering execution in conjunction with design, supply chain, and other core teams.
  • Create vehicle-aligned component and system targets for function, cost, weight and investment.
  • Develop 3D geometry and innovative designs concepts that solve challenging crash load cases while balancing construction, material, and manufacturing methods
  • Optimize the concepts and designs with analytical and physical assessments, ensuring conformation to federal regulations governing assigned systems.
  • Deliver world-class craftsmanship and fit/finish through the proper implementation of GD&T.
  • Develop, study, and implement novel construction techniques and materials then drive them to production feasibility
  • Enable effective communications with Studio, Packaging, Advanced Engineering, Manufacturing, and Supplier activities to deliver optimal design solutions
  • Support presentations of concepts and status to senior management and internally to Company personnel
Requirements
  • B.S. in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent combination of relevant education and experience.
  • 5+ years of experience designing, developing, and releasing one or more interior subsystem and adjoining parts including component manufacturing and assembly processes
  • 3+ years of experience using 3D CAD software collaboratively (NX, Catia, 3DX, etc.)
  • 2+ years of team lead experience
  • 1+ year of experience in the production release process
  • 1+ year of experience in a factory setting launching a new product
  • System level management experience

  • Master's Degree in Engineering
  • Excellent understanding of GD&T standards
  • High level of expertise and proficiency with Catia, Enovia, or similar tools including drawing and modeling practices and methodologies
  • Hands-on experience building and launching automotive products
  • Experience with Microsoft Office applications and other information management tools
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • A degree in Mechanical Engineering, Certificate of Accomplishment from a recognized Design educational institution, or equivalent skills and expertise
  • Experience using Confluence, Jira, Asana, or other project management tools
  • An eagerness to work cross-functional in a dynamic environment where you are part of a high performing team
  • A system approach to design and development with the desire and curiosity to strive for exceptional delivery execution and continuous improvement.
