Interior Electrician (12R)
Overview
The interior electrician is primarily responsible for the installation and maintenance of all the Army’s interior electrical systems.
Job Duties
- Install transformers, junction boxes, circuit breakers, service panels, switches, electrical boxes, and lightning rods.
- Read blueprints, wire plans, and repair orders to determine layouts and repairs.
- Test equipment for the operational conduction of circuits.
- Inspect power distribution systems, identify shorts in wires, and diagnose faulty equipment.
- Repair and replace faulty wiring and lighting fixtures.
Requirements
Must meet DoD requirements. Applicants must take the ASVAB, a series of tests to assess strengths and determine suitable Army jobs.
Training
Training includes 10 weeks of Basic Combat Training and seven weeks of Advanced Individual Training, involving classroom instruction and on-the-job training in installation and repair techniques.
