Job summary

Olson Kundig is seeking an Interior Designer III in Seattle to contribute design, technical, and coordination expertise across all phases of interior design work, with a primary focus on commercial interiors and support for select residential projects.

Qualifications

  • Education: professional degree in interior design, interior architecture, architecture, or related design discipline.
  • Experience: 5–9 years of related professional design experience.
  • Digital literacy: proficient modeling and documentation using Autodesk Revit.
  • Portfolio: demonstrates interior design, technical documentation, materiality, and presentation skills.
  • Communication: strong verbal and written communication with internal teams, clients, and vendors.
  • Work style: high attention to detail, prioritization, fast-paced and creative environment.

Responsibilities

  • Develop interior design concepts, space plans, test fits, finish strategies, and presentation materials.
  • Prepare interior design documentation: plans, elevations, finish plans, schedules, details, FF&E, art, and specifications.
  • Coordinate with partners, directors, principals, project managers, consultants, vendors, fabricators, contractors, and reps.
  • Support and may lead portions of construction administration, including submittals, RFIs, finish samples, and site observations.
  • Communicate design and technical viewpoints in team and client settings; contribute to presentations and project communications.
  • Guide and review work of less experienced interior design team members; contribute to process improvements.

We are seeking an Interior Designer III tocontribute design, technical, and coordination expertise across all phases of interior design work, with a primary focus on commercial interiors and the ability to support select residential projects. Working closely with project leadership, this role helps develop thoughtful, well-resolved interior environments from programming and concept design through documentation, specifications, and construction administration.

Primary Responsibilities

Design & Documentation


  • Develops interior design concepts, space plans, test fits, material palettes, finish strategies, and graphically strong presentation materials that translate client goals into clear design direction.

  • Prepares interior design documentation, including plans, elevations, finish plans and schedules, interior details, material palettes, FFE, art, and specifications.

  • Applies knowledge of interior systems, finish materials, furniture, fixtures, equipment, and product solutions appropriate to interior environments.

  • Reviews, compiles, and prepares project specifications in coordination with project leadership.


Project Coordination & Management


  • Supports the planning, programming, design, documentation, and coordination of primarily commercial interiors projects.

  • Coordinates with Partners, Directors, Principals, project managers, consultants, vendors, fabricators, contractors, and reps to support design intent, technical resolution, budgeting, procurement coordination, and project delivery.

  • Supports and may lead portions of construction administration, including submittal review, RFI coordination, finish sample review, and site observation related to interior design scope.


Communication & Collaboration


  • Communicates design and technical viewpoints clearly in team, consultant, vendor, and client-facing settings.

  • Prepares and contributes to presentations, design narratives, meeting materials, and external project communications.

  • Contributes ideas, solutions, and deliverables in collaborative project environments.


Growth, Leadership, & Mentorship


  • Guides and reviews work by less experienced interior design team members.

  • Contributes to process improvement, knowledge sharing, and the ongoing development of interior design materials, tools, standards, and workflows.

  • Performs other duties as assigned.


Qualifications

Must Have


  • Education: a professional degree in interior design, interior architecture, architecture, or related design discipline.

  • Experience: 5-9 yearsof related professional design experience, preferably within an architecture, interior design, or integrated design practice.
    Working knowledge of interior construction, millwork detailing, finish schedules, furniture systems, materials, and specifications.

  • Digital Literacy: Proficient modeling and documentation skills using Autodesk Revit.

  • Portfolio: Submit a portfolio thatdemonstratesinterior design, technical documentation, materiality, and presentation skills.

  • Communication: Strong verbal and written communication skills with the ability to collaborate effectively with internal teams, clients, and vendors.

  • Work Style: High attention to detail, strong prioritization skills, and the ability to work in a fast-paced, creative, and dynamic environment


Nice to Have


  • Demonstrated experience on commercial interiors projects; experience with workplace, hospitality, retail, cultural, or mixed-use project types is preferred.

  • Residential interiors experience, or a demonstrated residential sensibility around materiality, detailing, furniture, and client service, is a plus.

For this position based in Seattle, Washington, the annual salary is between $89,000 and $99,000. Final salary decisions are made based upon the extent and relevance of the candidate’s experience, as well as internal equity and external market factors.
