Job summary

Responsibilities

  • Understand the MA 'Project Road Map' and deadlines.

  • Assist in client design presentations: select conceptual images, generate 3D views, rendered elevations, FF&E selections; build client presentation templates.
  • Understand project scope and required deliverables.
  • Develop FF&E package and material selections.
  • Coordinate with vendors on finishes, FF&E specifications, and pricing; implement design direction.
  • Attend site meetings as directed; prepare surveys of existing conditions; review shop drawings and approvals.
  • Provide guidance to junior staff; manage BIM coordination with consultants; maintain documentation and quality control.

Job description

Morris Adjmi Architects ("MA") is a multidisciplinary design practice dedicated to interpreting the historic forces that shape cities to create buildings that stand out by fitting in. MA is recognized for its creative use of new materials and technologies, sophisticated, sustainable designs, and thoughtful engagement with the arts. Each design decision is guided by a deep appreciation for and understanding the integral architectural, cultural, civic, environmental, and economic forces that shape a project.

Interior Designer II/Interior Architect II (IDII/IAII) generates all architectural concepts for interiors, including full responsibility for interpreting, organizing, executing, and coordinating interior design assignments. The IDII plans and designs interior aspects or large to multiple projects by developing appropriate concepts and approaches and provides subject matter expertise on specific components of interior design. The IDII/IAII is familiar with what is required to be completed in all phases of a project, including construction documents, and can produce a set of drawings with limited oversight. This role is introduced to construction administration and the various responsibilities during the phase.

  • Uphold the MA Guiding Principals in all aspects of work, including internal and external interactions and communications
  • Have the ability and willingness to be flexible, working both independently and collaboratively with the project team, consultants, and contractors
  • Be capable of learning and adapting to new software as required
  • Be a motivated, self-starter open to opportunities to learn and ask for advice; self-evaluate one’s skills, efficiency and where improvement is needed
  • Effectively communicate with team members and organize workload; meet established deadlines
  • Complete tasks with accuracy, precision, and attention to detail
  • Be a clear written and verbal communicator with strong presentation skills
Core Responsibilities

Project Design & Planning
  • Understand the MA "Project Road Map" as well as project schedule and pertinent deadlines
  • Participate in project design and development from concept through documentation
  • Assist in the preparation of client design presentations (selecting conceptual images, generating 3D views, rendered elevations, material, and FF&E selections). Able to put together client presentation template based on the meeting agenda
  • Understand project scope and required deliverables

  • Correspond with vendors regarding finishes, FF&E specifications, and pricing
  • Implement design direction based on leadership feedback
Project Administration
Team Meetings
  • Help to identify agenda items for coordination and client meetings; attend when appropriate
  • Draft meeting minutes for PA/PM review
Internal Management
  • Provide guidance to less experienced colleagues as needed
  • Assist in the development of the Interiors work plan; monitor adherence to budget and schedule
  • Coordinate activities with all consultants as appropriate
  • Manage BIM coordination for consultants
Contractor Management
  • Be the secondary point of contact for RFIs, submittals, and correspondence
Project Documentation
  • Assist in the production of design development and construction documents with moderate oversight on larger projects, minimal oversight on smaller projects
  • Able to solely develop schedules for interior finishes, appliances, plumbing fixtures, and door hardware
  • Support review and coordination of consultant sets
  • Assist in the preparation of specifications
  • Consistently redline and review work for accuracy
Quality Control
  • Comply with MA Presentation Standards and Project Checklists
  • Working knowledge of building codes and ADA requirements and know where they are required
  • Have a familiarity with BIM execution plan
  • Archive project emails and maintains standard server file organization
  • Self-check own work
Construction Administration
  • Attend site meetings as an observer as directed
  • Prepare surveys of existing conditions
  • Aid with review of shop drawings and approvals
  • Maintain proper Field Reports, RFI Logs, and Submittal Logs
  • Assist with review of RFIs and Submittals
  • Assist PM/PA in the preparation of a Punch List
