Job description

At ALW, thoughtful design can shape how people experience, connect with, and move through the built environment. We are seeking a talented and motivated Interior Designer to join our collaborative design studio and contribute to meaningful projects across a variety of building types.

The ideal candidate brings a strong design sensibility, technical understanding, curiosity, and a collaborative spirit. You will work alongside architects, designers, consultants, clients, and industry partners to develop interior environments that are purposeful, expressive, and responsive to the people who experience them.

This role offers the opportunity to contribute throughout the design process, from early ideas and space planning through material selection, documentation, and construction.

What You’ll Do

  • Collaborate with project teams to develop interior design concepts that respond to client goals, project context, and the overall architectural vision.
  • Participate in projects from programming and conceptual design through design development, construction documentation, and construction administration.
  • Develop space plans, interior layouts, finish plans, interior elevations, millwork, details, schedules, and other interior documentation.
  • Research, select, and specify interior materials, finishes, fixtures, furniture, and equipment (FF&E).
  • Develop material palettes, presentation boards, renderings, models, and other visual tools that clearly communicate design intent.
  • Coordinate interior architecture, finishes, FF&E, lighting, and related design elements with architectural teams, consultants, vendors, manufacturers, and fabricators.
  • Assist with product research, pricing, specifications, procurement, and FF&E coordination through installation, as project needs require.
  • Apply an understanding of materials, color, texture, light, scale, and spatial relationships to create cohesive and engaging environments.
  • Produce coordinated construction documents with attention to quality, accuracy, constructability, and applicable codes and standards.
  • Participate in client meetings, design reviews, charrettes, presentations, and internal project discussions.
  • Support construction-phase activities, including submittal and shop drawing review, site observations, and coordination to help carry design intent through completion.
  • Manage assigned responsibilities with an understanding of project scope, schedule, budget, and deliverables.
  • Contribute ideas, curiosity, and perspective to ALW’s collaborative studio culture.
  • Stay engaged with evolving materials, products, technologies, and design practices that can strengthen our work and the experiences we create.

What You Bring

  • Bachelor’s degree in Interior Design, Interior Architecture, Architecture, or a related discipline.
  • 2–10 years of professional interior design experience.
  • Experience contributing to projects through multiple phases of design and documentation.
  • Strong understanding of interior construction documents, detailing, materials, finishes, specifications, and FF&E.
  • Proficiency in Revit and familiarity with tools such as SketchUp, Enscape/Lumion, Adobe Creative Suite, Bluebeam, and Microsoft Office.
  • Working knowledge of applicable building codes, accessibility requirements, life-safety considerations, and industry standards.
  • Strong visual, verbal, and written communication skills.
  • Ability to communicate design ideas through drawings, digital visualization, material selections, and presentations.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail, with the ability to balance multiple responsibilities and deadlines.
  • A collaborative mindset paired with the ability to take ownership of work and move tasks forward independently.
  • Curiosity, initiative, and a genuine commitment to thoughtful, high-quality design.

We’d Be Excited If You Also Bring

  • NCIDQ certification or active progress toward certification.
  • LEED, WELL, or another relevant professional accreditation.
  • Experience coordinating FF&E selection, specifications, procurement, and installation.
  • Experience across multiple project types and scales.
  • An interest in emerging design technologies, visualization tools, and new ways of improving the design process.

Life at ALW

Great work comes from people who are engaged, curious, and invested in one another. At ALW, you’ll be part of a studio where architecture and interior design work together as complementary parts of creating a complete experience.

You’ll have opportunities to contribute meaningfully to projects, learn alongside experienced colleagues, expand your technical and design capabilities, and help shape our studio's work and culture.

This is a full-time, salaried, on-site position. Compensation is based on experience, professional credentials, and qualifications.
