Job description

Are you an Interior Designer with a passion for beautiful spaces and a drive for exceptional client experiences? Do you want to work with a highly skilled team that builds and remodels some of the most distinctive custom homes in the Madison area? Then you might be the perfect fit for our team!

At Michael F. Simon Builders, we’re committed to delivering timeless design, superior quality, and an outstanding client experience. We understand that great construction starts with thoughtful design—and we’re looking for someone who shares that belief.

Job Overview — Interior Designer

We’re seeking an Interior Designer who is excited to partner with clients, vendors, and our internal team to elevate interior finishes on select projects. This role blends client-focused design support with internal documentation and coordination, helping ensure that our high standard of craftsmanship is reflected in every space we build or remodel. Approximately 50% of your time will be spent in our office, and 50% will be visiting vendor showrooms with clients to assist in selections and design decisions.

If you thrive in a collaborative, professional environment and take pride in delivering high-end results, this role offers a unique opportunity to make a meaningful impact on our client experience and project outcomes.

What You'll do
  • Meet with clients to guide interior finish selections and design decisions
  • Accompany clients to vendor showrooms to review materials and products
  • Prepare clear and organized documentation of selections, options, and recommendations
  • Support Project Managers with Options to Consider and Change Order documentation
  • Coordinate with vendors, suppliers, and internal teams to help keep projects on schedule
  • Help maintain consistency and quality across project finishes
  • Assist with social media content to showcase design highlights and project progress
Why This Role Is Important

This position is crucial in ensuring that clients who choose not to engage an external designer still have a professional and seamless design experience. The Interior Designer helps bridge the gap between construction and design, reducing confusion, minimizing costly changes, and elevating the final outcome for our clients.

What We’re Looking For

We want someone who:

  • Has strong design sensibility and an eye for detail
  • Communicates clearly and professionally
  • Works effectively with clients and internal teams
  • Is comfortable managing multiple priorities and deadlines
  • Has experience with selections and interior finishes (residential experience preferred)
  • Is eager to contribute to a culture of excellence, teamwork, and continuous improvement
What You’ll Enjoy
  • Competitive salary with opportunity for growth
  • Mileage reimbursement for showroom and client meetings
  • Collaborative, supportive team environment
  • Opportunity to shape a brand-new role within a historic and respected company
  • Work that makes a visible difference in high-end custom homes
  • Nights, weekends, and holidays off whenever possible
Primary Requirements
  • Live in the greater Madison area
  • Experience in interior design, architecture, or related field
  • Professional communication skills — both verbal and written
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Comfortable with technology, project documentation, and social media
  • Valid driver’s license and clean driving record
Why Apply?

Michael F. Simon Builders has been defining custom homes in the Madison area since 1893 through superior craftsmanship, thoughtful design, and unwavering commitment to our clients. We value team members who bring energy, professionalism, passion, and a desire to be part of something exceptional.

If that sounds like you, we’d love to hear from you. Apply today!
