Job description

The Wadsworth Company is a full-service, design-to-turnkey custom home builder located in beautiful Southern Vermont. We are passionate about delivering exceptional service and creating homes that reflect our clients’ lifestyles, dreams, and expectations.

Wadsworth Design Build is seeking an Interior Designer who will be responsible for creating exceptional and bespoke interior environments for our custom homes. This position requires a high level of creativity, a keen understanding of architecture and interior aesthetics, and the ability to bring a client’s vision to life in a sophisticated, functional, and timeless way. The interior designer will work closely with architects, on-site project managers, contractors, and clients to ensure that every aspect of the interior design aligns with the overall architectural style, lifestyle needs, and high-end specifications of the home.

As an interior designer, you will work with increased independence, taking ownership of developing and coordinating substantial portions of a project from concept through completion. You will apply strong design and technical judgment across your work, contribute to client presentations, and coordinate directly with consultants, vendors, and construction personnel to keep projects moving smoothly. Also, you will review the work of less experienced staff, helping ensure it meets our established quality standards. We are looking for designers who anticipate coordination issues before they become problems and who take an active role in mentoring and developing the broader design team.

  • Proficiency in design software (SketchUp, AutoCAD, Revit)
  • Strong interpersonal skills and project knowledge to assist on site project managers with timelines and material deliverables.
  • Knowledge of design principles, including color theory, space planning, lighting design, and furniture selection, with an emphasis on creating cohesive, functional, and beautiful spaces.
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to clearly articulate design ideas and collaborate effectively with clients, contractors, and vendors.
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple projects, meet deadlines, and ensure quality control.
  • High level of professionalism and integrity, with the ability to handle confidential information with discretion.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Interior Design, Architecture or a related field.
  • 3+ years of experience in interior design, with a strong focus on high-end residential

  • Provide a high level of personalized service to clients, offering expert guidance in material selection, color schemes, furniture, lighting, and décor that align with the home’s aesthetic and functionality.
  • Maintain open communication with clients throughout the design and build phases, ensuring satisfaction with the evolving vision of their home.
  • Design functional layouts that maximize space, optimize natural light, and consider how rooms will be used by the homeowner.
  • Source and select premium, custom, and high-quality materials, finishes, and furniture that align with the design vision, including flooring, wall treatments, cabinetry, lighting, textiles, and fixtures.
  • Collaborate with architects to ensure the interior design is cohesive with the building's architectural features, structure, and layout.
