Job summary

Black Turtle US LLC in Capitol Heights, MD, seeks an experienced Interior Designer III for government-related commercial projects. You will lead complex design initiatives, produce CET drawings, and mentor junior designers while ensuring specification accuracy and contract compliance.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree from a FIDER or CIDA-accredited Interior Design program, or equivalent education and experience.
  • Minimum of 5 years of progressive experience in commercial interior design or government-related projects.
  • Advanced proficiency in AutoCAD for complex drawing production, revisions, and specification development.
  • Experience with CET is preferred but not required.
  • Knowledge of government project requirements, contract-based specifications, and related processes.

Responsibilities

  • Lead CET drawings, furniture layouts, product specs, 3D renderings, and presentation materials.
  • Produce and oversee installation drawings and documentation for complex projects with accuracy and constructability.
  • Provide regular project updates to design leadership, sales teams, and stakeholders.
  • Collaborate with account executives, clients, manufacturer reps, and internal teams to develop concepts and solve design challenges.
  • Lead finish selections, product recommendations, value-engineering discussions, and specification decisions for large-scale projects.
  • Maintain project documentation standards and track decisions, deliverables, and risks.
  • Identify and resolve discrepancies between drawings, specifications, field conditions, and installation requirements.
  • Share knowledge on workplace trends, sustainability, and industry best practices.
  • Mentor junior designers with technical guidance, drawing reviews, and product knowledge.
  • Contribute to design standards, QA, and cross-functional collaboration.
  • Participate in client meetings and project coordination with professionalism.

Position Overview

We are seeking an experienced and collaborative Interior Designer III with expertise in commercial interiors and government-related projects. This role is responsible for leading complex design initiatives, developing design strategies, and serving as a technical, product, and process resource for project teams. The ideal candidate will manage detailed project documentation, ensure specification accuracy, support contract-compliant solutions, resolve complex site and product challenges, mentor junior designers, and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead the development of detailed CET drawings, furniture layouts, product specifications, 3D renderings, and presentation materials.
  • Produce and oversee installation drawings and supporting documentation for complex projects, ensuring accuracy, constructability, and alignment with project objectives.

  • Knowledge of government project requirements, contract-based specifications, and related project processes is highly desirable.
  • Strong understanding of installation drawings, specification packages, field coordination, and documentation quality control.
  • Advanced knowledge of systems furniture, ancillary products, finish selections, and manufacturer resources.
  • Demonstrated ability to balance design quality, budget, schedule, constructability, and client expectations.
  • Excellent organizational, communication, problem-solving, and project management skills.
  • Ability to work independently while serving as a senior technical resource and mentor to team members.
