Job description

A highly regarded design studio is seeking an experienced Interior Design Lead to join its New York team and play a key role in shaping sophisticated, design-led interiors. This is a hands-on position for a designer who thrives at the intersection of creative design, exceptional materials, custom furniture, and technical execution.

You will work closely with senior leadership and multidisciplinary teams, taking meaningful ownership across projects from early concepts through construction. The role offers the chance to shape everything from furniture and finishes to bespoke pieces, while collaborating with talented architects, consultants, makers, and industry partners.

The ideal candidate is equal parts designer, problem-solver, and collaborator – someone with a refined eye, strong technical instincts, and the confidence to take ideas from the sketchbook through to the finished space. Alongside a supportive work culture, our client offers a range of benefits, including health and dental coverage, professional development support, 401(k) matching, and more.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead design development across projects from concept through construction administration
  • Develop furniture, finish, and material selections, including highly bespoke custom pieces
  • Create and oversee detailed drawing sets, specifications, furniture layouts, and interior details
  • Collaborate with architects, consultants, vendors, manufacturers, and fabricators to bring designs to life
  • Review shop drawings, samples, submittals, and RFIs to ensure quality and design intent are maintained
  • Develop polished presentations, material palettes, and 3D studies for internal and client presentations
  • Research emerging products, materials, and makers while contributing to the studio’s design library and resources
  • Help mentor junior designers and take increasing ownership of project deliverables and client communication

Key Skills / Requirements:

  • 5+ years of professional interior design experience
  • Degree in Interior Design, Interior Architecture, Architecture, or related field
  • Post-graduate experience across hospitality AND/OR high-end residential projects
  • Strong experience with custom furniture design, detailing, and specification
  • Excellent understanding of interiors, FF&E, materials, finishes, and product sourcing
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD, Revit, SketchUp, and Adobe Creative Suite
  • Experience carrying projects through documentation and construction administration
  • Highly creative, detail-oriented, organized, and confident working across multiple disciplines
  • LEED certification and/or NCIDQ is a plus
