Job summary

West Star Aviation Inc. is seeking an Interior Cabinet Technician in Chattanooga, TN. You will fabricate complex high-quality furniture and wood-surfaced subassemblies for installation in business aircraft, including cabinet modification, repair, refurbishment, and basic electrical work.

Duties vary daily and are guided by the Team Leader. Candidates should have related experience from Tech I to Master Tech levels, with a focus on accuracy, safety, and ability to work independently in a hangar

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• 0-2 years of experience in aviation, auto, RV, Marine or related field.
• 2-4 years of experience in aviation, auto, RV, Marine or related field.
• 4-6 years of experience in aviation, auto, RV, Marine or related field.
• 6+ years’ experience in aviation interiors.

Responsibilities

• Fabricate complex high quality furniture and other wood-surfaced subassemblies for installation in aircraft cabinets.
• Perform parts replacements or repair, basic electrical system installation and general mechanical applications.
• Modify, repair, refurbish and fabricate aircraft cabinets as primary functions.
• Work as assigned by the Team Leader and communicate in English.
• Maintain shop cleanliness and ensure safety compliance.

What you can expect as an Interior Cabinet Technician at West Star:

As an interior cabinet technician you will be fabricating complex high quality furniture and other wood-surfaced subassemblies for installation in world class business aircraft. Some of the tasks you may be required to complete include parts replacements or repair, basic electrical system installation and general mechanical applications. Modifications, repair, refurbishment and fabrication of aircraft cabinets are the primary functions. Job duties will vary each day and are designated by the Team Leader in charge of that project.

You Will Be ESSENTIAL To Many FUNCTIONS Including

• Performing general mechanical functions on aircraft cabinets and related systems. This includes items such as removal and installation of cabinets, modification, re-laminating, veneering or fabrication of new cabinets.
• Ability to perform minor modifications
• Perform daily turnover sheets
• Maintenance and repair of shop facility, equipment and tooling
• Basic computer skills to be able to navigate electronic training, manuals, and maintenance data bases
• Cleanliness of shop and surroundings
• Work independently when required
• Effectively and clearly communicate (i.e., speak, write, read) in English
• Any other job-related duties as assigned by supervisor or management

Your Education

What you’ll need to bring with you:

• A High school diploma or equivalent

Your Experience

Tech I

• 0-2 years of experience in aviation, auto, RV, Marine or related field
• These technicians have very limited to no knowledge of the position
• This level requires close supervision and constant check ins on work performance

Tech II

• 2 - 4 years of experience in aviation, auto, RV, Marine or related field
• Considerable knowledge of the job with a broad understanding of detailed aspects
• Will need general supervision and instructions

Tech III

• 4-6 years of experience in aviation, auto, RV, Marine or related field
• Full knowledge of the job and complete understanding of detailed aspects
• Limited supervision is required
• No instruction needed and can act as a trainer or mentor to other technicians

Master Tech

• 6+ years’ experience in aviation interiors
• Exclusive knowledge in all areas of the job
• This technician is a subject matter expert with a wide and comprehensive knowledge of the job

Your Sense Of Responsibility

• Attend work every day as scheduled to include overtime and weekend assignments.
• Notify supervisor in advance of shift starting if unable to work.
• Must have reliable transportation to get to work each and every day.
• Perform all work in accordance with Federal Aviation Administration guidelines.
• Follow all company and safety rules during performance of duties.
• Maintain customer oriented work habits.
• Assist in major modification work as needed

Physical Requirements

• Lifts 50 lbs.
• Routine walking, bending and squatting or sitting.
• Routing or repetitive physical motion with arms and hands with emphasis on grasping, feeling and finger dexterity.
• Standing for long periods of time.
• Climb ladders and stairs, work in small restricted areas

Mental Requirements

• Understanding and implementation of regulations and guidelines including but not limited to OSHA, Hazmat, etc.
• Work with others in a professional manner.
• Read and comprehend various documents
• Plan and organize procedures and operations

Supervision

• Work under supervision of assigned Team Leader and Interior Management
• May be directed to supervise other technicians in some capacity.
• Work with minimal supervision when required

Working Conditions

• The majority of work will be performed in a hangar or shop environment
• Work outside on the ramp on occasion
• Varied positions in and around the aircraft.

Equipment Used

• Personal hand tools supplied by the mechanic.
• Electrical power tools such as sanders, saws, power drills, etc.
• Computer, copy machine etc.
