Responsibilities

  • Recommend equipment, vehicle, and supply needs.

This is a temporary/interim appointment beginning immediately and continuing through January 2027 or until otherwise determined by the Board of Education.

Compensation

Compensation: Competitive and commensurate with experience and the temporary nature of the assignment.

Position Overview

Austintown Local Schools is seeking an experienced, organized, and student-centered professional to serve as Interim Supervisor of Transportation. This temporary leadership position will oversee the day-to-day operation of the District's transportation department and provide continuity of leadership during the interim period.

The Interim Supervisor of Transportation will be responsible for directing, supervising, and managing the transportation department and its personnel while ensuring the safe, efficient, and reliable transportation of eligible students.

Essential Responsibilities
  • Direct and oversee the daily operations of the District transportation department.
  • Ensure the safe transportation of eligible students.
  • Supervise, support, and evaluate transportation department personnel.
  • Assign bus drivers and substitute drivers to routes.
  • Monitor and adjust K12 bus routes to ensure safe and efficient use of equipment.
  • Assist with the recruitment, orientation, and training of bus drivers and substitute drivers.
  • Conduct and coordinate driver safety meetings and transportation training.
  • Ensure transportation staff comply with applicable laws, regulations, District policies, and safety requirements.
  • Maintain appropriate route information, maps, student lists, seating information, and transportation records.
  • Monitor the condition, cleanliness, maintenance, and repair needs of the District transportation fleet.
  • Coordinate work assignments for bus mechanics and other transportation personnel.
  • Maintain maintenance, fuel, vehicle, safety, accident, and cost records.
  • Recommend equipment, vehicle, and supply needs.
  • Coordinate transportation services for students with disabilities and other specialized transportation needs.
  • Respond to transportation concerns from parents, students, administrators, and staff in a professional and timely manner.
  • Communicate with the Superintendent regarding road conditions, accidents, emergencies, and transportation-related concerns.
  • Assist with transportation budgeting, purchasing, and fleet planning.
  • Work collaboratively with building administrators and District departments regarding arrival, dismissal, routing, and transportation needs.
  • Maintain positive working relationships with local, county, and state road officials and other community partners.
  • Be available before or after the regular school day when emergencies or operational needs require.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Superintendent.
Qualifications

Candidates should possess:

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Demonstrated experience in school transportation, transportation management, operations, supervision, or a related field.
  • Strong organizational, supervisory, communication, and problem-solving skills.
  • Knowledge of school transportation safety requirements, routing, bus operations, and fleet management.
  • Ability to effectively supervise and work collaboratively with drivers, mechanics, administrators, parents, students, and community members.
  • Strong public-relations and customer-service skills.
  • Ability to maintain confidential personnel and operational information.
  • Basic computer and transportation-management technology skills.
  • Valid driver's license.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Previous experience supervising or managing a school transportation department.
  • Knowledge of Ohio pupil transportation laws, regulations, and procedures.
  • Commercial Driver License (CDL) with appropriate school bus endorsements preferred, but not required.

The Superintendent and/or Board of Education may consider appropriate alternatives to the qualifications listed above.
