Job summary

Mysmarthire seeks a Special Education Assistant to support students under an IEP. The role involves delivering instructional interventions, assisting with daily living skills, and maintaining a calm, supportive environment.

The assistant works under the supervision of a certified professional and may cover for teachers in their absence, escort students between activities, and assist with behavior management using district-approved strategies. 10-month variability applies.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED, or equivalent training/experience.
• Deliver instruction and interventions per IEP under supervision.
• Strong verbal and written communication with students, parents, and staff.

Responsibilities

• Delivers instruction and interventions designed to meet educational, life skills, and behavioral goals per IEP.
• Flexible and adaptable to changing situations.
• Organizes materials and manages time effectively.
• Remains calm during crises and uses de-escalation strategies.
• Attends to health and daily living needs of students.
• May teach in the absence of the teacher or during emergencies.
• Escort students to/from lunch, activities, and field trips.
• Lift up to 45 pounds and perform mobility tasks as needed.
• Navigate the school facility and operate standard office/educational equipment.
• Communicate clearly with students, families, and supervisors.
• Make informed autonomous decisions when supervision is unavailable.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
