Job summary

Vaco in La Mirada, CA seeks an Interim Inventory Accounting Manager (Contract) to lead cost and inventory accounting across multiple locations. You will supervise the Cost Accountant, oversee item costing, transfers, adjustments, and BOM activity, and partner with Operations to keep records accurate.

The role emphasizes cycle counts, month-end close support, inventory valuation analysis, and responsiveness to audits.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, Supply Chain, or related field preferred.
• 5+ years of cost accounting, inventory accounting, manufacturing, distribution, or related experience.
• Strong knowledge of inventory accounting, standard costing, cycle counts, physical inventory, BOMs, inventory valuation, and variance analysis.
• Multi-location or multi-warehouse inventory experience strongly preferred.
• Sage ERP experience or comparable ERP experience preferred.
• Strong Excel, analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Manage and supervise the Cost Accountant, including reviewing work, setting priorities, and providing guidance.
• Oversee inventory and cost accounting, including item costing, inventory transfers, adjustments, and BOM/production activity.
• Manage cycle counts and physical inventory across multiple branches and warehouse locations.
• Investigate inventory discrepancies, negative inventory, costing issues, and operational variances.
• Review inventory adjustments and transactions for accuracy, proper documentation, and approval.
• Partner with Accounting during month-end close to reconcile inventory to the General Ledger.
• Review inventory valuation and analyze slow-moving, excess, and obsolete inventory.
• Support inventory reserves, write-offs, year-end physical counts, and external audit requests.
• Develop inventory reporting and KPIs and recommend improvements to inventory processes and controls.
• Partner with Operations, Purchasing, Production, and branch teams to maintain accurate inventory records.
