Job summary

Princess Cruises seeks an experienced HR leader to act as a trusted partner on board, collaborating with ship and shoreside leadership to design people strategies aligned with brand direction.

You will oversee all HR disciplines onboard, including compliance with MLC 2006, performance management, learning and development, and crew welfare. The role requires strong leadership and intimate familiarity with shipboard operations.

Qualifications

  • Minimum five years in HR management or HRBP roles, ideally in hospitality or shipboard operations.
  • Experience handling complex employee relations, investigations and disciplinary actions.
  • Good knowledge of international HR practices and maritime regulations.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as strategic HR leader onboard and partner with leadership to design people strategies.
  • Oversee HR disciplines onboard including compliance with MLC 2006 and learning & development.
  • Coach and develop the HR team to deliver inclusive, service‑oriented support.
  • Advise leaders on HR policy, processes, and best practice with timely guidance.
  • Ensure fair performance management and conduct investigations in sensitive cases.
  • Monitor MLC 2006 compliance and escalate risks to senior management.
  • Lead onboarding, shipboard orientation, and training initiatives.
  • Drive Employee Engagement survey activities and action plans.
  • Oversee Internal Transfer, Career Progression, and recruitment processes.
  • Lead Crew Welfare & Crew Club programs to support wellbeing and engagement.
  • Act as CARE Officer, coordinating with Medical Department on wellbeing.

Job description

Key Responsibilities
  • Serve as a strategic HR leader, trusted people partner, and member of the onboard Executive Committee, collaborating with ship and shoreside leadership to design and deliver people strategies that align with Princess values and brand direction.
  • Oversee all core HR disciplines onboard, including compliance with MLC 2006, employee relations, performance management, organizational development, disciplinary processes, learning and development, crew welfare, and HR systems.
  • Lead, coach, and develop the Human Resources team, building a highly engaged, inclusive, and service‑oriented department that role‑models Princess behaviours.
  • Act as advisor and coach to leaders and managers on HR policies, processes, and best practice, providing clear guidance on all employee‑related matters.
  • Provide expert consultation and coaching to shipboard management on departmental and individual performance issues, ensuring fair, consistent, and timely performance management.
  • Confidentially manage harassment, discrimination, and other sensitive employee relations cases, conducting prompt, thorough, and unbiased investigations and recommending appropriate actions.
  • Act as the ship's Subject Matter Expert on MLC 2006, monitoring compliance in all teammate matters, conducting regular inspections, and escalating findings and risks to senior management.
  • Oversee the Learning & Development function onboard, including teammate onboarding, shipboard orientation, and ongoing training initiatives that support performance, compliance, and career growth.
  • Partner with ship and shore leadership to coordinate Employee Engagement Survey activities, analyse results, and implement action plans that drive engagement and business performance.
  • Manage the Internal Transfer and Career Progression programs, providing career counselling, supporting succession planning, and overseeing internal recruitment and interview processes.
  • Lead the Crew Welfare & Crew Club function, ensuring a balanced and engaging program of social, recreational, and educational activities that supports wellbeing and teammate engagement.
  • Act as the designated shipboard CARE Officer, partnering closely with the Medical Department and other stakeholders to support teammates' physical, emotional, and psychological wellbeing.
Skills, Knowledge & Expertise
  • Either a bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Adult Education, Business, or a related field (or international equivalent), or an advanced professional HR certification (e.g. SHRM or CIPD) is preferred.
  • Minimum of five (5) years' experience in Human Resources management, ideally with a focus on employee relations or as an HR Business Partner; experience in shipboard operations or hospitality is an advantage.
  • Strong, demonstrable experience managing complex employee relations issues in a multicultural environment, including investigations, grievance handling, conflict resolution, and disciplinary processes.
  • Good working knowledge of international HR practices across compensation, benefits, employment, talent management, and organisational development.
  • In‑depth understanding of relevant maritime and labour regulations (including MLC 2006) and the ability to interpret and apply them in day‑to‑day decision‑making.
  • Proficiency with HRIS/HR systems and Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint); comfortable working with data and producing clear reports and presentations.
  • Excellent command of the English language, both verbal and written, with strong facilitation, presentation, and influencing skills.
  • Proven leadership capability with the ability to inspire, coach, and develop diverse, multicultural teams while building trust and credibility at all levels of the organisation.
  • Highly organised, resilient, and able to prioritise and manage multiple issues simultaneously in a fast‑paced, shipboard environment.
  • Demonstrated integrity, sound judgement, discretion, and unwavering commitment to confidentiality and ethical business conduct.
  • Genuine commitment to teammate wellbeing, inclusion, and engagement, with the ability to build positive, professional relationships across all departments and cultures.
