Position Overview

Our client, a growing manufacturing organization in the Greater Charlotte area, is seeking a hands-on Interim Controller to lead the accounting function during a critical transition period. This role is ideal for an experienced manufacturing accounting leader who can immediately stabilize the accounting function, ensure timely financial reporting, and provide leadership during a period of growth or transition. The Interim Controller will oversee all aspects of accounting operations, financial reporting, month-end close, and internal controls while partnering with executive leadership to support business objectives. The ideal candidate will have significant manufacturing industry experience and a proven track record leading accounting teams in fast-paced environments.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead and manage the month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close processes.
• Oversee general ledger, account reconciliations, journal entries, and financial reporting.
• Prepare and analyze monthly financial statements and management reporting packages.
• Manage cash flow forecasting and working capital reporting.
• Supervise and mentor accounting staff, including AP, AR, payroll, and general accounting functions.
• Partner with operations leadership to improve financial visibility across manufacturing facilities.
• Oversee inventory accounting, fixed assets, and manufacturing-related transactions.
• Review inventory reserves, cycle count programs, and physical inventory procedures.
• Support budgeting, forecasting, and variance analysis processes.
• Coordinate external audit activities and serve as the primary contact for auditors.
• Assess and strengthen accounting processes, internal controls, and financial reporting procedures.
• Assist with ERP optimization, process improvement initiatives, and special projects as needed.
• Ensure compliance with U.S. GAAP and company accounting policies.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance required.
• CPA strongly preferred.
• 10+ years of progressive accounting and finance experience.
• Prior Controller or Assistant Controller experience required.
• Extensive manufacturing industry experience required.
• Strong knowledge of inventory accounting, cost accounting, and standard costing methodologies.
• Experience managing accounting teams and driving process improvements.
• Advanced proficiency with ERP systems such as SAP, Oracle, Microsoft Dynamics, NetSuite, Epicor, Sage Intacct, or Plex.
• Strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills.
• Ability to quickly assess processes, identify issues, and implement practical solutions.

Preferred Experience

• Multi-site manufacturing environment.
• Private equity-backed or rapidly growing organizations.
• ERP implementations, upgrades, or system conversions.
• Audit readiness and financial control remediation projects.
• Experience supporting operational leaders with manufacturing KPI reporting.
