Job summary

Kanawha County Public Schools is seeking an Elementary Principal for a long-term substitute starting November 16, 2026, and ending when the current employee returns. The role combines instructional leadership with management of facilities and administrative operations, under WV law.

Exempt, 220+ days annually, term-based assignment with evaluation per state policy. The position reports to the Assistant Superintendent of Elementary and requires leadership, budgeting, scheduling, and collaboration

Qualifications

• Leadership experience in school settings and ability to guide instructional programs.
• Strong communication and collaboration with teachers, staff, parents, and community partners.
• Experience with budgeting, scheduling, and resource management in a K-12 environment.

Responsibilities

• Develops, implements, and continually evaluates curriculum, instructional programs and support activities to improve student achievement and ensure continual progress to meet or exceed standards.
• Supports the development of interdisciplinary teacher teams integral to school improvement.
• Uses multiple data sources to assess, identify and apply instructional improvements and to positively impact student achievement.
• Works with staff to determine effective instructional practices and oversees special education and student support programs and services.
• Creates and maintains a safe, orderly school environment with high expectations for student behavior and strong prevention/intervention strategies.
• Engages parents and the community in student support, instruction and governance.
• Analyzes enrollment data to plan and monitor the school budget for all resources.
