Job summary

Interim Controller

Our client, a global technology and manufacturing company, is seeking an Interim Controller to provide leadership and stability across its accounting organization during a period of growth and transformation.

This role is available on a remote or hybrid basis. Hybrid candidates may work from an office in the South Bay Area. The role has an initial duration of approximately 5 months, with potential for extension.

Responsibilities

• Lead the accounting organization, including general ledger, accounts payable, payroll accounting, consolidations, close activities, and audit support
• Own monthly, quarterly, and annual close processes, ensuring accurate, timely, and compliant financial reporting
• Review journal entries, account reconciliations, variance analyses, consolidations, and supporting schedules
• Manage, mentor, and develop accounting professionals while establishing clear priorities, accountability, and performance expectations
• Identify and resolve complex accounting issues, unreconciled balances, close bottlenecks, and operational challenges
• Lead external audit activities, including audit readiness, coordination with auditors, and remediation of findings
• Maintain compliance with U.S. GAAP and strengthen the organization’s internal control environment
• Partner with executive leadership, FP&A, Operations, and Finance Systems teams to support reporting and business objectives
• Develop scalable accounting policies, procedures, documentation, and operating workflows
• Support accounting systems modernization and other finance transformation initiatives
• Evaluate team structure, workflows, and resource allocation to improve operational effectiveness
• Remain actively involved in reconciliations, journal entries, issue resolution, and close execution as needed

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field; CPA required
• 15+ years of progressive accounting experience, including significant Controller or senior accounting leadership responsibility
• Strong knowledge of U.S. GAAP, financial reporting, consolidations, close management, internal controls, and accounting operations
• Demonstrated success leading accounting teams, external audits, and process improvements within a high-growth or complex operating environment
• Hands-on systems experience with ERP and accounting platforms, with the ability to support modernization initiatives and personally resolve detailed accounting issues
