Job summary

UNC Health Nash seeks an interim Chief Medical Officer to act as the senior physician executive, collaborating with the CEO, CNO and board to set clinical strategy, drive quality and safety outcomes, and ensure regulatory compliance across the hospital.

The CMO will oversee medical staff credentialing, service-line development, risk management, care management, and contracted staff services, partnering with the CFO on budgets and leading continuous improvement across patient care functions.

Qualifications

• MD or DO from an accredited School of Medicine with current board certification.
• Minimum of twelve years of clinical experience, including at least ten years in a leadership capacity.
• Experience in medical staff governance, credentialing, and regulatory compliance.

Responsibilities

• Oversee quality, safety, and performance management across all medical staff and clinical departments
• Develop and implement a comprehensive clinical strategic plan aligned with the hospital's organisational goals
• Ensure adherence to healthcare regulations and standards including HIPAA, Medicare/Medicaid, and JCAHO requirements
• Manage the medical staff credentialing process and coordinate medical staff committees and governance functions
• Partner with the CFO to manage clinical budgets, resource allocation, and cost-effective service delivery
• Lead organisational change initiatives, foster workforce engagement, and develop clinical leadership capability across teams
