Job summary

Jobtailor seeks an experienced nonprofit financial leader for contract engagements in the United States, including New York Metro preference. You will oversee restricted funds compliance, lead budgeting and reporting, and ensure GAAP adherence.

Ideal candidates have 8+ years in nonprofit finance, CPA or MBA preferred, proficiency with QuickBooks Online and Excel, and ability to operate in a fast-paced, interim role across multiple assignments.

Qualifications

• 8+ years of progressive financial leadership experience with restricted funding and government contracts.
• Strong nonprofit finance knowledge, GAAP, and fund accounting.
• Proficient in QuickBooks Online and Microsoft Excel.
• ERP systems familiarity is a plus.
• Able to start in interim/fractional roles and deliver quickly.
• Available for hourly, 1099 contract engagements across multiple assignments.
• CPA or MBA or equivalent advanced degree preferred.
• Excellent leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills.
• New York Metro candidates preferred; onsite as needed.

Responsibilities

• Oversee compliance and reporting for restricted funds (city, state, federal contracts).

• Oversee accounting, audits, tax filings, and regulatory compliance per GAAP.
• Strengthen internal controls around grant and contract compliance.
• Prepare financial statements, KPIs, and cash flow analyses for leadership and funders.
• Provide steady financial leadership during interim periods and knowledge transfer at close.
• Manage relationships with banks, auditors, accountants, and external providers.
• Oversee finance staff and/or external vendors during the engagement.

• Oversee compliance and reporting for restricted funds, including city, state, and federal contracts and grants, ensuring adherence to funder-specific requirements and regulations such as 2 CFR 200 / Uniform Guidance
• Lead financial planning, budgeting, forecasting, and reporting for the engagement
• Oversee accounting practices, audits, tax filings, and regulatory compliance in accordance with GAAP and nonprofit financial regulations
• Assess and strengthen internal controls and financial procedures, particularly around grant and contract compliance
• Prepare financial statements, KPIs, and cash flow analyses for leadership and applicable funders
• Provide steady financial leadership during interim periods, onboard smoothly, and transfer knowledge at engagement close
• Manage relationships with banks, auditors, accountants, and external financial service providers
• Oversee finance staff and/or external vendors during the engagement

Requirements

• 8+ years of progressive financial leadership experience, including direct experience managing restricted funding and city, state, and federal government contracts
• Strong understanding of nonprofit financial management, GAAP standards, and fund accounting
• Proficiency in QuickBooks Online and Microsoft Excel
• Familiarity with additional ERP systems is a plus
• Proven ability to step into interim or fractional roles and deliver results quickly with minimal ramp-up
• Available for hourly, 1099 contract engagements with flexibility across multiple assignments
• CPA, MBA, or equivalent advanced degree strongly preferred
• Excellent leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills
• New York Metro candidates preferred and open to working onsite for clients as needed; candidates elsewhere will also be considered
