SNS Choirs is seeking an Interim Assistant Conductor to support leading SNS Chorale as we prepare for our Holiday Concert on December 20, 2026. This is a part-time, interim role ideal for a conductor who loves working with adult singers and building ensemble leadership experience.

Based in Palmdale, CA, rehearsals are held Sundays 6:00-7:30pm with the Artistic Team, and the role includes shaping a warm, high-quality choral community through collaborative rehearsal planning and conducting

Qualifications

• A degree in Music or Choral Conducting, or equivalent experience working with adult choirs on advanced repertoire.
• Demonstrated knowledge of vocal technique, vocal pedagogy, and functional voice training for adult choral singers.
• Experience conducting large ensembles of singers.
• Keyboard skills (ability to play during a sectional rehearsal) preferred.
• Experience working with diverse communities.
• A collaborative, positive approach that keeps rehearsals welcoming and upbeat, relaxed in approach but still impactful and rewarding for singers.

Responsibilities

• Runs SNS Chorale rehearsals every other week on Sundays, 6:00-7:30pm in collaboration with the Artistic Team.
• Assist the Artistic Team with sectional rehearsals, warmups, and preparing a concert set selected by the Artistic Team to lead in each concert performance.
• Be musically prepared to run all rehearsals and performances for SNS Chorale.
• Create a rehearsal plan to provide to singers.
• Conduct additional rehearsals and/or sectional rehearsals as requested.
• Provide instruction and feedback to singers on vocal production, and work in collaboration with the Artistic Team to help shape the ensemble's sound.

POSITION: Interim Assistant Conductor, SNS Chorale

SCHEDULE: Every other Sunday, 6:00-7:30pm (rehearsal)

REHEARSAL LOCATION: Palmdale High School, Palmdale, CA

CONCERT: Holiday Concert, Sunday, December 20, 2026

COMPENSATION: $65/hour rehearsal, $25/hour admin (approx. $300-500/month)

ABOUT SNS CHOIRS

Established in 2005, SNS Choirs is the premier choral organization of the Antelope Valley.

What began with The Sunday Night Singers, our founding international award-winning chamber choir of trained vocalists and emerging artists, has grown into a full choral family alongside SNS Chorale and Desert Youth Voices. SNS Chorale is one of the largest choirs in the Antelope Valley, close to 80 singers strong, spanning high schoolers to senior citizens, all singing side by side. Each season includes three concerts, with SNS Chorale performing in two of them.

SNS Choirs is a close, welcoming community where you'll find lifelong musicians and first-time singers sharing the same risers. In 2027, that sound reaches further still, as SNS takes the stage at the Chorus America Conference in Los Angeles with a set exploring the immigrant journey.

$65/hour for rehearsal time and $25/hour for administrative time, for an estimated total of $300-500 per month depending on rehearsal and prep schedule.
