Our client, a rapidly growing manufacturer, is seeking an Interim Accounting Manager to provide immediate accounting leadership and hands-on support during a period of significant growth.
This is a high-impact, hands-on interim assignment for an experienced accounting professional who can step in quickly, take ownership of the month-end close and cost accounting functions, and lead an existing accounting team.
You will work closely with the Controller and partner with Operations and other business leaders to ensure accurate financial reporting, inventory accounting, customer profitability, and cost accounting.
Responsibilities
- Take ownership of the month-end close process, including close scheduling, journal entries, GL review, bank reconciliations, and balance sheet reconciliations
- Review and oversee the work of Staff and Senior Accountants, providing day-to-day direction and ensuring deadlines are met
- Oversee monthly balance sheet reconciliations and account roll forwards
- Lead cost accounting and manufacturing accounting activities, including standard vs. actual cost analysis, yield, waste, and production variances
- Partner closely with Operations to investigate and resolve cost, inventory, production, and margin variances
- Prepare and review customer-level profitability and margin reporting
- Oversee inventory accounting and reconciliations for both company-owned and customer-owned materials
- Support cycle counts and physical inventory audits
- Oversee customer invoicing and work with customers and internal stakeholders to resolve accounting-related issues
- Partner cross-functionally with Operations, AR, AP, and other teams to ensure accurate transaction processing and appropriate controls
- Ensure accounting practices comply with GAAP and internal control requirements
- Support annual financial audits and tax-related requests, serving as a key point of contact for auditors
- Identify and implement process improvements within close, reporting, cost accounting, and operational accounting
- Assist with ERP and accounting system improvements
- Provide hands-on support and problem-solving as needed across the accounting function
- Partner with the Controller on special projects and other priorities during the interim period
Requirements
- 5+ years of progressive accounting experience
- Prior experience as an Accounting Manager, Assistant Controller, Senior Accounting Manager, or strong Senior Accountant ready for an interim leadership assignment
- Experience supervising or leading an accounting team
- Strong month-end close and financial reporting experience
- Hands-on cost accounting and inventory accounting experience
- Experience with standard vs. actual cost analysis, job costing, BOMs, routings, yield, and/or manufacturing variances
- Manufacturing, CPG, food & beverage, distribution, or another inventory-intensive environment
- Experience working with an ERP system such as SAP, NetSuite, SYSPRO, or similar
- Advanced Excel skills
- Ability to hit the ground running and work independently with minimal ramp-up time
- Comfortable operating in a fast-paced, high-growth environment with competing priorities
- Strong communication skills and the ability to partner effectively with Operations, Finance, leadership, and external stakeholders
Nice to Have
- SAP Business One or SAP S/4HANA experience
- Beverage, food, CPG, or co-packing experience
- Experience with customer-level profitability/margin analysis
- Experience supporting financial audits
- CPA or CMA
