INTERDISCIPLINARY BASIC SKILLS-American Literature: Adjunct/Substitute Instructor POOL (non-credit)

Position within the San Diego Community College District for part‑time, temporary faculty in American Literature, part of the District‑wide Instructional Pool. The position is available on a continuous basis and may be assigned to one of the district’s campuses (City, Mesa, Miramar) and various continuing education centers.

FLSA Status: Exempt (does not accrue overtime)

Position Type: Adjunct

Bargaining Unit: AFT/Continuing Education Faculty

Responsibilities

• Develop and deliver instruction in accordance with the established curriculum and course outlines.
• Teach scheduled lecture and lab classes, as assigned, and be available to students outside of class time.
• Maintain accurate records of student attendance, grades, and assignments.
• Provide quality instruction and create an environment that encourages discussion of ideas, interests, and issues.
• Keep current knowledge in the subject matter areas and maintain professional conduct and ethics.
• Fulfill all professional responsibilities of a part‑time/temporary faculty member.

Minimum Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in English, Literature, Comparative Literature, Composition, Linguistics, Speech, Creative Writing, or Journalism from a regionally accredited institution.
• OR a Bachelor’s degree in any discipline with twelve (12) semester units in teaching reading.
• OR an equivalent qualification.
• Demonstrated cultural competency and sensitivity to the diverse academic, socioeconomic, and ethnic backgrounds of community‑college students and staff.

Preferred Qualifications

• Foreign degree evaluation from a member of NACES or ACEI.
• Familiarity with adult education and continuing‑education instructional practices.

Licenses/Certificates/Credentials

Full‑time, clear California Designated Subjects Adult Education Teaching Credential authorizing instruction in the subject of the course.
