The Intensive Intervention Specialist provides targeted academic intervention and tutoring to middle school students participating in the District’s 21st Century Community Learning Centers (21st CCLC) program. The specialist works with small groups of students in reading or mathematics using specific intervention curriculum, instructional materials, and procedures identified by the District and 21st CCLC program.

The Intensive Intervention Specialist is responsible for providing consistent, high-quality intervention instruction; administering designated assessments and progress-monitoring measures; maintaining accurate student records; and working cooperatively with other 21st CCLC personnel to support student academic growth.

This position takes place outside of the regular school day and requires the employee to maintain a consistent before-school and/or after-school schedule for the duration of the intervention program.

REQUIREMENTS

EDUCATION LEVEL:

Bachelor’s degree in Education or related field required. Appropriate experience working with middle school students in an educational, tutoring, intervention, or youth development setting may be considered.

EXPERIENCE DESIRED:

Experience working with middle school students. Experience providing small-group or individualized academic instruction. Experience providing reading and/or mathematics intervention preferred. Experience implementing structured or research-based intervention curriculum preferred. Experience administering assessments and monitoring student academic progress preferred.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

The position requires the ability to communicate effectively with students and staff; operate a computer and instructional technology; prepare and organize instructional materials; and provide instruction in a school setting. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS,

AND ABILITIES:

Must have a valid South Dakota teaching certificate. This position requires regular and reliable attendance, including the ability to maintain a consistent before-school and/or after-school work schedule. The successful candidate will demonstrate knowledge of effective instructional practices for middle school students and targeted academic interventions, with the ability to implement structured curriculum and instructional procedures with fidelity. Responsibilities include providing effective small-group instruction, administering assessments, monitoring and accurately recording student progress, and communicating student needs or concerns to appropriate staff. Strong communication, organizational, collaboration, and classroom management skills are essential, as is the ability to build positive relationships with students, work cooperatively with staff and families, accept feedback, maintain student confidentiality, and effectively use technology for instruction, communication, assessment, and data management. Successful completion of all District employment requirements, including required background checks, is required.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS & DUTIES

Provide Intensive Academic Intervention

• Provide targeted reading or mathematics intervention to middle school students participating in the 21st CCLC program.
• Work primarily with small groups of students requiring additional academic support.
• Implement the intervention curriculum, lessons, instructional materials, and procedures identified by the District and 21 st CCLC program.
• Follow the established sequence, pacing, and instructional routines of the assigned intervention program.
• Provide explicit, focused instruction based on identified student needs.
• Maintain a strong instructional focus and maximize available intervention time.
• Communicate clear learning goals and expectations to students.
• Provide appropriate modeling, guided practice, feedback, and opportunities for independent practice.
• Reinforce previously taught skills and provide additional instruction when students demonstrate difficulty.
• Maintain fidelity to the assigned intervention while responding appropriately to individual student needs.

Assess and Monitor Student Progress

• Administer designated screening, diagnostic, formative, and/or progress-monitoring assessments as directed.
• Monitor student understanding during intervention sessions and adjust instructional support within the parameters of the assigned curriculum.
• Maintain accurate and timely records of student assessment results and academic progress.
• Record student attendance and participation in intervention sessions.
• Maintain required student data using District or grant-designated systems, forms, or procedures.
• Review student performance information to identify areas of growth and continued need.
• Communicate student progress and concerns to appropriate 21st CCLC personnel.
• Assist program staff in determining whether students are making appropriate progress through the intervention.

Provide an Effective Learning Environment

• Establish a positive, structured, and supportive learning environment.
• Communicate high expectations for student effort, participation, and academic growth.
• Establish and consistently follow appropriate procedures for small-group instruction.
• Build positive relationships with students and encourage active participation in intervention activities.
• Redirect student behavior appropriately and maintain an environment conducive to learning.
• Organize instructional materials and prepare for each intervention session.
• Begin and end intervention sessions on time and maximize time devoted to purposeful academic instruction.
• Promote student confidence, persistence, and responsibility for learning.

Collaborate with 21 st CCLC and School Personnel

• Work cooperatively with the 21st CCLC Program Administrator, site coordinators, Reading and Math Intervention Specialists, teachers, and other grant-funded personnel.
• Participate in required training related to intervention curriculum, assessment, progress monitoring, program procedures, and grant requirements.
• Communicate regularly with appropriate program staff regarding student attendance, progress, instructional needs, and concerns.
• Seek assistance from program leadership or intervention specialists when students are not demonstrating expected progress.
• Implement feedback and recommendations provided by program leadership and instructional specialists.
• Coordinate with other program personnel to provide consistent academic support to participating students.
• Participate in staff meetings, professional development, and program evaluation activities as required.

Maintain Student Records and Program Documentation

• Maintain accurate records of student attendance, intervention sessions, assessment results, and progress-monitoring data.
• Complete required documentation in a timely manner.
• Maintain confidentiality of students and their families.
• Follow District requirements regarding student records and data privacy.
• Provide information needed for 21st CCLC program evaluation and grant reporting as requested.
• Maintain instructional materials, assessment materials, and other program resources in an organized manner.

Demonstrate Professionalism and Reliability

• Report to assigned intervention sessions consistently and on time.
• Maintain the established intervention schedule throughout the program period.
• Notify appropriate program personnel of absences according to established procedures.
• Complete required training prior to and during implementation of the intervention program.
• Follow District, building, and 21st CCLC policies and procedures.
• Communicate effectively and professionally with students, colleagues, administrators, and families.
• Maintain professional boundaries and student confidentiality.
• Support District and 21st CCLC program goals.
• Perform other duties as assigned by supervisors.

Starting at $31.58 per hour
