The Intensive Intervention Specialist provides targeted academic intervention and tutoring to middle school students participating in the District’s 21st Century Community Learning Centers (21st CCLC) program. The specialist works with small groups of students in reading or mathematics using specific intervention curriculum, instructional materials, and procedures identified by the District and 21st CCLC program.
The Intensive Intervention Specialist is responsible for providing consistent, high-quality intervention instruction; administering designated assessments and progress-monitoring measures; maintaining accurate student records; and working cooperatively with other 21st CCLC personnel to support student academic growth.
This position takes place outside of the regular school day and requires the employee to maintain a consistent before-school and/or after-school schedule for the duration of the intervention program.
REQUIREMENTS
EDUCATION LEVEL:
Bachelor’s degree in Education or related field required. Appropriate experience working with middle school students in an educational, tutoring, intervention, or youth development setting may be considered.
EXPERIENCE DESIRED:
Experience working with middle school students. Experience providing small-group or individualized academic instruction. Experience providing reading and/or mathematics intervention preferred. Experience implementing structured or research-based intervention curriculum preferred. Experience administering assessments and monitoring student academic progress preferred.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
The position requires the ability to communicate effectively with students and staff; operate a computer and instructional technology; prepare and organize instructional materials; and provide instruction in a school setting. The employee must be able to perform the essential functions of the position with or without reasonable accommodation.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS,
AND ABILITIES:
Must have a valid South Dakota teaching certificate. This position requires regular and reliable attendance, including the ability to maintain a consistent before-school and/or after-school work schedule. The successful candidate will demonstrate knowledge of effective instructional practices for middle school students and targeted academic interventions, with the ability to implement structured curriculum and instructional procedures with fidelity. Responsibilities include providing effective small-group instruction, administering assessments, monitoring and accurately recording student progress, and communicating student needs or concerns to appropriate staff. Strong communication, organizational, collaboration, and classroom management skills are essential, as is the ability to build positive relationships with students, work cooperatively with staff and families, accept feedback, maintain student confidentiality, and effectively use technology for instruction, communication, assessment, and data management. Successful completion of all District employment requirements, including required background checks, is required.
