The Group You'll Be A Part Of
The Legal Group protects us against risks and provides the framework for our ethical and compliant global business practices, enabling Lam to effectively navigate the landscape of the semiconductor industry. Their global government affairs team is responsible for advocating on behalf of Lam with public policymakers.
The Impact You'll Make
- Strategize and execute Lam's IP strategy, program, and policies in a cross-functional team environment for Lam's equipment and process technologies, collaborating with RF, chemistry, physics, software, mechanical, and electrical engineering teams.
- Collaborate with the broader Legal team to address IP issues in transactions, agreements, and disputes.
- Manage Lam's patent portfolios across multiple business units domestically and internationally.
- Handle adversarial work including freedom to operate, non-infringement, opposition, and litigation, including risk assessments and IP evaluations.
- Oversee external counsel to implement Lam's IP strategy effectively.
- Focus primarily on work from the Etch Product Group and Supply Chain, emphasizing hardware, wafer fabrication chemistry, and processes.
Who We're Looking For
- Be a registered patent attorney eager to grow into a comprehensive IP counselor.
- Possess excellent interpersonal communication skills in English—written, spoken, and presentation—and the ability to distill complex IP matters.
- Have strong legal, analytical, and technical skills, coupled with good business sense.
- Be dedicated, hardworking, and team-oriented; we value collaboration.
- Willing to travel occasionally to Lam locations outside the U.S.
- Ability to build and maintain relationships with international stakeholders.
- Work effectively under pressure in a fast-paced environment with tight deadlines.
- Experience supporting cross-functional teams and developing IP programs in a corporate setting is preferred.
- Be intellectually curious, creative, approachable, and innovative.
- Demonstrate a cooperative team spirit; we do not tolerate 'lone wolves.'
- Have at least 2+ years of patent experience, with a J.D. or equivalent, U.S. Patent Bar, and California bar admission or qualifications to be registered as in-house counsel in California.
- Background or experience in semiconductor equipment or industry, understanding advanced semiconductor fabrication technologies including etch, deposition, and RF.
- B.S. in a semiconductor-related discipline such as Physics, Electrical Engineering, Materials Science, or Chemistry preferred.
- This position is located in Fremont, California, with hybrid work flexibility.

Salary
The salary range for this position in the CA San Francisco Bay Area is $135,000 to $250,000, dependent on various factors including experience, education, and location.
