Position Overview:
A well-established full-service law firm is seeking an experienced Intellectual Property Associate with 3–5 years of patent experience.
The primary focus of this position will be patent preparation and prosecution, with opportunities to work on a broad range of intellectual property matters. The ideal location is the firm's Charlotte, NC office, though qualified candidates in Tampa, FL or Atlanta, GA may also be considered.
Key Responsibilities:
- Prepare and prosecute domestic and international patent applications.
- Conduct patent-related legal and technical research.
- Analyze complex patent and intellectual property matters.
- Assist clients with developing and protecting intellectual property portfolios.
- Draft patent applications, office action responses, amendments, and related documents.
- Evaluate technical and legal issues involving patentability and patent prosecution.
- Work on a wide variety of intellectual property matters as needed.
- Communicate effectively with clients, inventors, attorneys, patent examiners, and other stakeholders.
- Collaborate with attorneys and legal professionals on complex IP matters.
- Maintain strong organization and attention to detail across multiple matters and deadlines.
Qualifications:
- Juris Doctor (J.D.) from an accredited law school.
- Active membership in the applicable state bar.
- Registered to practice before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO).
- Undergraduate degree in science or engineering.
- 3–5 years of patent experience.
- Experience with patent preparation and prosecution.
- Strong technical and analytical skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong organizational and time-management abilities.
- Superior investigative and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to conduct complex and detailed analysis of patent-related matters.
- Strong interpersonal skills and ability to communicate effectively with a diverse group of individuals.
Preferred Background:
The ideal candidate will have:
- A degree in Electrical Engineering.
- Experience working with telecommunications, integrated circuits, or related technologies.
- Experience handling a broad range of intellectual property matters.
