Job summary

Peraton is seeking a Systems Engineer (Mid/Sr.) for Integration & Test (SEIT) to support NASA at Wallops Flight Facility, VA. You will drive system engineering, integration, and testing across spaceflight, airborne, and ground segments, coordinating with hardware, software, and cybersecurity teams.

Qualifications

• BS in Engineering or related field with 5+ years of experience; MS with 3+ years OK

Responsibilities

We are seeking a Systems Engineer (Mid/Sr.) for Integration & Test (SEIT) supporting our NASA customer based at Wallops Flight Facility in VA.

As prime contractor on the Peraton Space Exploration Networks Services and Evolution (SENSE) contract, Peraton is responsible for the operation, maintenance, sustainment and systems engineering of NASA’s worldwide satellite communication networks. In this position, you will become part of NASA’s return to the moon, support new earth and space science missions, and launch vehicles. You will be an integral part of a world class team that ensures NASA space-ground communications are reliable and meet mission requirements.

The SENSE Direct to Earth (DTE) SEIT team supports cross functional disciplines such as Hardware/Software Engineering and System Engineering for the DTE projects. This will include study, design, development, integration, testing, verification and operations of spaceflight, airborne and ground system hardware and software, including development and validation of new technologies to enable future space and science missions.

In this position, you will make plans, direct, and coordinate system engineering, integration and testing activities associated across multiple functional areas and products, including the following:

• Provide System Engineering excellence through the System Engineering Management Plan (SEMP) processes
• Support deployment of new and revised applications to operational systems, including performing hardware and software testing
• Collaborate with technical engineering teams, Operations, IT Security, Mission Assurance, and Task Order Leads to identify, resolve, and mitigate system anomalies—including complex system, software, and cybersecurity issues while supporting Task Order requirements and deliverables across all program functional elements.
• Provide leadership over planning, scheduling, state of health, and risk management activities
• Guidethe cross functional teams, leadand present at major program reviews
• Mentor the program junior systems engineers
• Perform system level testing with ground systems equipment for end-to-end testing in the Ground Station Testing Facility (GSTF)
• Support GSTF management tasks involving DTE hardware and software
• Support orbital and launch operations activities

Qualifications

Required Experience:

• A Bachelor of Science degree in an Engineering discipline (Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Systems Engineering), and 5+ years of related technical experience; or a MS degree and 3+ years of experience
• 3+ years of development, integration, and test (I&T) within the systems engineering function
• Experience working with customers to document, derive, and develop requirements
• Experience communicating complex technical projects to high-level stakeholders
• Experience in creation of Test Strategy, Plans, Scripts and Summary Reports.
• Experience with Test Automation Tools and Practices, including scripting (C++, Python, MATLAB, Perl, UNIX)
• Experience with Windows and Linux servers (RedHat, CentOS)
• Experience using Microsoft (MS) Office Tools to produce PowerPoint briefings, MS Project schedules, MS Word documents, and generate and manipulate Excel files
• Ability to travel for up to several weeks each year to support DTE activities.
• This position requires a “Public Trust” background check with the ability to obtain and maintain a Secret Security clearance.
• Must be a US citizen.

Desired Experience:

• Experience with the NASA Near Space Network, including the Direct to Earth (DTE) and Space Relay (SR) networks
• Software development and familiarity with scripting languages
• Proficient professional written and verbal communication skills including briefings and presentations to leadership and customers
• Strong interpersonal skills, problem solving, multi-tasking, and attention to details
• Ability to work with a diverse group of suppliers, vendors and Government employees
• An active Secret clearance is a plus (but not required)

Target Salary Range

$80,000 - $128,000. This represents the typical salary range for this position. Salary is determined by various factors, including but not limited to, the scope and responsibilities of the position, the individual’s experience, education, knowledge, skills, and competencies, as well as geographic location and business and contract considerations. Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay.
