Position Type: Full Time | Exempt
Purpose: Tompkins’ Material Handling Integration Department is responsible for the design, specification, implementation and commissioning of Material Handling Systems for our customers. This position is responsible for managing all on-site activities, including field installation, integration and testing, and logistics support for turnkey material handling projects. This includes the allocation of staging and workspace, compliance with any client/GC site safety requirements, coordination of various vendors’ on-site activities, resources, and installation, updating Project Manager and team as to daily/weekly accomplishments, updating percent complete on tracking schedules, providing feedback for weekly update meetings, developing a daily installation summary report at the end of each day and other various site-specific tasks.
Essential Job Functions:
·Provide on-site leadership for all Tompkins’ related activities, personnel and various vendors and subcontractors
·Serve as primary client contact for all on-site efforts and ensure client satisfaction
·Ensure all Tompkins and any site/client specific safety requirements are met by all Tompkins, vendor and subcontractor personnel
·Work closely with overall Project Manager to coordinate project tasks, timelines, staffing and deliverables
·Coordinates with:
oOverall Project Manager all progress and any inconsistencies, interferences, or issues on-site, as well as all site related delivery, installation, testing and go-live efforts
oMechanical and electrical installation subcontractors and personnel to ensure project technical and schedule objectives are met, as well as any site GC efforts related to the project at hand
oIntegration and test personnel to ensure all technical and schedule objectives are met
oLogistics support personnel to guarantee proper flow of materials on-site and all delivery deadlines are met
oClient operations and maintenance personnel to ensure all activities are conducted with minimal impact to existing operations and all necessary cut-ins and shutdowns are scheduled in advance
·Manage all site activities and conduct frequent inspections throughout the installation process to ensure proper installation locations and project quality standards are met or exceeded
·Manage the receipt, inspection, security and deployment of all equipment, materials, and tools on-site
·Coordinate staging and work areas across vendor/subcontractor activities
·Frequently meets with vendor and subcontractor site managers to obtain status updates, work plans or any challenges they may foresee moving forward
·Attend any site or client required meetings and report back to all appropriate team members any pertinent information
·Site activity is typically fast paced, the Site Installation Manager must be flexible to adjust plans as challenges arise, as well as problem solve on the fly for the various issues that may arise
oMay include shuffling of installation sequences and/or areas to keep vendor installation efforts moving forward and on schedule
oMust work to reduce any impacts that will negatively affect either schedule or budget when unavoidable, the ultimate goal is to stay on time and on budget
·Coordinate any outside inspections, including permit inspections, in a timely fashion to not impact schedule or cause any delays
·Evaluate workmanship by various trades and provide useful feedback to appropriate trades when necessary, as well as complete final inspections of all vendor’s and subcontractor’s work as a final approval of quality, workmanship, and functionality
oAny unsatisfactory items shall be reported to the appropriate supplier via a punch list
·Complete all project related reports and other paperwork in a clear manner and on time, including a daily update document to internal project team reviewing project status, installation progress or any outstanding or new project issues
·Identify and manage project dependencies and critical path
·Track all issues that arise during the project and drive their resolution
·Set and continually manage project expectations with vendors and subcontractors
·Estimate the resources and participants needed to achieve project goals and request resources in consultation with appropriate management team
·Alert account management and others responsible on any critical issues regarding schedule, installation, or other issues that are determined to be critical to the project outcome
·May participate in conceptual and detailed planning phases of the project as required to ensure completeness, accuracy, and proper positioning of Integration services to be offered to the client
Job Requirements:
·Bachelor's degree (B.S.) from four-year college or university in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering is highly recommended
·5+ years direct work experience in supervising and managing field installation in the material handling industry
·Must have a detailed understanding of skilled trades (i.e., electricians, millwrights, etc.)
·Work experience in the Material Handling or related industry is a requirement
·Conveyor and/or conveyor controls installation experience is a requirement
·Experience with transitioning complex systems to full operations
·Project execution experience including planning, scheduling, resource management, installation, integration, and acceptance testing/sign-off
·Possesses leadership skills and is highly motivated to drive results within the project team
·Ability to manage others, delegate responsibility, provide support and gain the respect and confidence of other team members
·Strong attention to detail, time management and meet critical deadlines
·Requires critical thinking and proactive problem-solving skills (see issues before they become an issue), communication skills (verbal and written) and interpersonal skills (team building)
·Have a high level of energy, positive attitude, and possess a selfless attitude
·Excellent at document tracking and controls, as well as demonstrating a track record in managing successful projects from development to completion
·Ability to review mechanical and electrical layouts (in AutoCAD)
·Strong familiarity with AutoCAD and project management software, such as Microsoft Project, as well as a proficient understanding of business solutions, such as Microsoft Office Suite etc.
·Willingness to travel extensively and spend up to several months deployed to a specific site (return trips scheduled as allowed)
Physical Demands and Work Environment:
·Frequently required to stand, walk, and sit
·Frequently required to utilize hand and finger dexterity
·Occasionally required to climb, balance, bend, stoop, kneel or crawl
·Continually required to talk or hear
·Continually required to utilize visual acuity to operate equipment, read technical information, and/or use a keyboard
·Predominantly required to travel to client sites, (airplane and/or car)
·Frequently includes off-shift and weekend work (where required)
·Must be able to spend long amounts of time either standing or walking on concrete floors or on elevated steel platforms
·Capable of lifting up to 50lbs and working in a physically demanding environment
·Able to operate a forklift and other various lift trucks
·Must possess valid driver’s license and passport (occasional jobs in Canada)
