NEC Laboratories America invites applications for an Integrated Systems Research Intern for 2027, based in Princeton, NJ. The internship focuses on real-world AI/ML research, including generative AI, multimodal and distributed systems.

Integrated Systems Research Intern - 2027

Description

The Integrated Systems Department is now accepting applications for our 2027 Summer Internship program. We are seeking talented individuals to join our research efforts across a variety of areas, including real-world applications of generative AI (like AI agents, agentic solutions, and human – AI collaboration), multimodal AI systems and physical AI systems.

Duration of the internship is usually 3 months (start and end dates are flexible). Publishing is an integral part of our activities to conduct leading edge research and development. Our projects emphasize the systems aspects of utilizing AI and ML models in real-world applications.

Position Requirements

Ideal candidates will have experience (or strong interest) in designing, deploying and optimizing (multimodal) generative AI applications and platforms.

• Currently enrolled in PhD/MS program in Computer Science (or equivalent)


• Good research record or exposure to AI and ML systems, including Generative AI.


• Exposure and experience in building AI systems


• Programming skills (AI-assisted coding, debugging, verification), and ability to leverage OSS AI models and tools to build AI-native systems

The anticipated compensation range for this position is $6,200 to $8,200/month, depending upon the selected candidate’s relevant experience and area of expertise. NEC offers its interns paid company holidays, access to fitness areas as well as travel and housing allowance, if applicable.
