Battelle is seeking an Integrated Circuit Design Engineering Co-Op for Spring and Summer 2027 in Columbus, OH. This 100% onsite, full-time role supports design, simulation, and modeling of digital ICs within the Cyber Trust & Assurance division.

Ideal candidates are pursuing Electrical or Computer Engineering, have SystemVerilog/VHDL experience, and can work independently or in teams while pursuing a security clearance. Housing stipend is provided for relocations over 50 miles.

Qualifications

Job Summary

Battelle is seeking an Integrated Circuit Design Engineering Co-Op for Spring and Summer Semester 2027. This position is 100% onsite, full-time, located in Columbus, OH. Battelle’s Cyber Trust & Assurance division, in our National Security Global Business. We are currently seeking someone with knowledge of VSLI and integrated circuit design with a background in electrical or computer engineering. This individual will support design, simulation, and modeling of digital integrated circuits.

Responsibilities

• RTL design and RTL verification of custom hardware.
• Synthesis, PnR, and Signoff of GDSII databases

Key Qualifications

• Must be currently pursuing a Bachelors, Masters, or PhD in Electrical Engineering or Computer Engineering.
• Must be a Senior Undergraduate standing or higher.
• Experience with hardware description languages (SystemVerilog, VHDL).
• Experience with the digital IC design process from RTL to GDSII.
• 1+ years of industry, academic, or research experience in VLSI design, simulation, and layout.
• Proficiency in OOP in Python.
• Able to work independently and as part of a team.
• A positive attitude and willingness to take on technical challenges.
• Must be a sole US citizen with the ability to obtain and maintain a US government security clearance

Preferred Qualifications

• Familiarity with hardware verification methodologies, such as UVM and formal tools.
• Experience with HDL generator frameworks (Chisel).
• Exposure to Cadence digital design suite (Genus, Innovus, Tempus, Pegasus).
• Related work experience (paid or unpaid) is preferred.

Compensation Data

The salary range for this role is $20.00 - $40.00 per hour, in addition to a $2,000 housing stipend for students relocating more than 50 miles from home and university. Internship pay is benchmarked against national averages taking into consideration a student's major and year in school.
