Job summary

BJC Behavioral Health is seeking an Intake Specialist to perform initial screening and evaluation of individuals seeking services. You will determine eligibility for behavioral health services and connect clients to appropriate internal and external supports.

You will also provide interim case management and may assist with brief evidence-based therapies, coordinating with hospitals, ERs, and community resources to ensure timely access.

Qualifications

• Experience performing intake screening or eligibility assessment.
• Knowledge of eligibility requirements for behavioral health services.
• Ability to provide brief evidence-based therapies as part of intake.
• Strong communication and coordination with internal and external referral sources.

Responsibilities

• Perform initial screening and evaluation of individuals seeking services.

Additional Information About the Role

• Up to a $2300 Sign on Bonus
• Shift information: 8 AM - 5 PM
• Types of clients: potential clients for behavioral health services. Persons are referred from a variety of referral sources in the community, such as hospitals, Behavioral Health Response (BHR)-crisis line, ERs, various programs under the Department of Mental Health umbrella of services
• Location: South Lindbergh Business Court in South County
• Job responsibilities: complete intake assessments on new clients to agency, screening potential clients for eligibility for BJC BH services, have to be able to navigate electronic medical record and other computer systems
• Example of a typical Day: completing intake assessments on new persons coming into the agency. Could be scheduled assessments on clinician calendar, or those walking in and requesting services. Current state is 2 intakes per day, building to 3/day.
• Types of diagnosis: SMI/SED diagnosis, established through Department of Mental Health---Schizophrenias, Bipolar Disorders, Major Depressive Disorders, ADHD, Anxiety Disorders

Overview

BJC Behavioral Health is a community health center that provides and coordinates behavioral health services for more than 8,000 seriously mentally ill adults and seriously emotionally disturbed children in St. Louis City, St. Louis County, St. François, Iron and Washington counties. As an Administrative Agent of the Missouri Department of Mental Health (DMH), BJC Behavioral Health serves as a major point of entry for people eligible for mental health services funded by DMH and is responsible for serving as gatekeeper to the public mental health system.
