Job summary

Raleigh Oaks Behavioral Health in Garner, North Carolina, seeks an Intake RN for the call center to manage patient intake and admissions, including screening, insurance verification, and financial counseling. Qualifications

• Graduation from an accredited school of nursing is required.
• BSN is preferred.
• One or more years of experience in mental health or substance use disorder admissions is preferred.
• Experience in clinical interviewing, patient assessment, referral, treatment planning, and communicating with external review organizations or comparable entities is desirable.
• Experience in managed care pre-certification, level of care assessments and utilization is a plus.
• Outstanding interpersonal, interviewing and assessment skills are essential.
• Strong telephone etiquette and paging procedures are important.

Responsibilities

• Facilitates admissions and assessment processes for incoming patients.
• Provides initial evaluation and initiates the integrated assessment, documenting symptoms, functioning and needs.
• Collaborates with facility medical and psychiatric staff to ensure appropriate admissions.
• Communicates projected admissions to internal representatives in a timely manner.
• Provides coverage for the Call Center, including answering phones, processing admission requests and reviewing patients; verifies insurance and assists with pre-certifications during high volume.
• Ensures all admission documentation is gathered and pre-authorizations secured.
• Reviews patient charts to determine medical necessity and coordinates with physicians for orders and DSM-V diagnoses.
• Educates patients on medications; monitors effectiveness and adherence; follows physician orders and nursing protocols.
• Maintains knowledge of common medications used for psychiatric patients.
