Job summary

Palmetto Infusion is seeking a detail‑oriented Insurance Verification Specialist to support efficient patient care coordination. You will verify insurance, perform benefits checks, secure authorizations, and communicate coverage details to patients and providers.

The role requires a high school diploma, 1 year of healthcare or customer service experience, and proficiency with MS Office. Monday–Friday, daytime schedule, in-office at our Columbia, SC location.

Responsibilities

About the Role

The purpose of this position is to ensure accurate and timely insurance verification, benefit investigation, and authorization processing to support efficient patient care coordination. This role plays a critical part in optimizing revenue cycle operations while providing clear communication to patients and healthcare providers regarding coverage and financial responsibilities. Schedule: Monday – Friday; 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM.

Minimum Qualifications

• High School Diploma or Equivalent.
• One year of healthcare experience or customer service experience.
• Proficient at partner programs (i.e.: MS Outlook, Word, Excel).
• Ability to cope with ambiguous, changing environment while under pressure in a calm.
• Must be able to work as a team member and develop productive and cooperative working relationships with all members of the Palmetto Infusion.

Essential Functions

• Verify and obtain code-specific insurance information via phone and third-party payer portals.
• Complete new referrals by conducting benefits verification, interpreting insurance policies, and securing authorizations and predeterminations.
• Review and confirm patients’ insurance coverage, including pharmacy benefits (PBM), and obtain prior authorizations when applicable.
• Communicate with patients regarding benefits, coverage details, and financial responsibilities.
• Resolve authorization issues, coverage discrepancies, and insurance claim denials.
• Maintain and update patient appointment calendars, including weekly responsibility tracking.
• Monitor and track incoming tasks and inquiries, ensuring timely follow‑up and resolution.
• Collaborate with healthcare providers to clarify coverage requirements and necessary documentation.
• Partner with team members to streamline workflows and achieve departmental goals.
• Prioritize tasks effectively in a high-volume, fast-paced environment while meeting all deadlines.
