Job summary

Perimeter Behavioral Hospital of Dallas, part of Perimeter Healthcare, is seeking an Intake Call Specialist to help receive and triage in-bound calls and referrals within the admissions department. You will support clinicians and leadership by implementing systematic processes to facilitate patient admissions and benefit verifications in real time.

This role emphasizes strong communication, coordination with the business office, and maintaining accurate patient information and records.

Qualifications

• Education: High school diploma required with a preferred bachelor’s degree in a human-related field.
• Experience: At least one year in a psychiatric hospital intake department or business office preferred.
• Must possess good communication skills, including writing techniques for reports and presentations.

Responsibilities

• Receive referral calls, obtain demographic information, and route the call to the appropriate source or schedule an assessment.
• Process information requests and referrals and complete pre-certifications as needed.
• Assist in arranging admission for patients, notify business office to verify benefits, and contact physicians and patients as directed by the Case Manager.
• Determine needed Releases of Information and process them per policy.
• Maintain logs and statistics; support outcome studies and department data.

The Intake Call Specialist is responsible for assisting in the process of receiving, scheduling and triaging in-bound calls and referrals throughout the admissions department for patients in need of the services provided. In addition, the Intake Call Specialist will support the clinicians and members of leadership through the implementation of systematic processes for all departmental goals and objectives. The review of assessments, and verification of insurance information processed in real time creates a sense of urgency for hospital admission placement. PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

• Receive referral calls, obtain minimal demographic information, and refer the call to the appropriate source or schedule an assessment.
• Process all requests for information and external referrals.
• Completes pre-certifications as needed.
• Assist in arranging for admission of patients, including alerting the business office staff to begin the verification of benefits, initiating calls to physicians, patient belongings and other related tasks as directed by the Case Manager.
• Determine what Releases of Information are needed, and process them accordingly, per policy.
• Assist in obtaining needed records and information.
• Assist in maintaining all statistics; provide support to the Outcome Study, and other data, as assigned.
• Maintains good communication with the Utilization Review, Business Office, and other staff as indicated.
• Maintains log of received calls and disposition of the calls, and otherinformational tools as assigned.
• Establishes and maintains effective relationships with customers, practicing good standards of customer service.
• Complete safety checks throughout the department including patient’s inventory.

• Demonstrated ability to work effectively and cooperatively with hospital staff, physicians and administration.
• Must be able to work effectively and efficiently in an independent role.
• Have the ability to sit and stand occasionally and walk frequently, reach above, at or below.
• Have the ability to communicate clearly and see well enough to read charts, treatment plans and typewritten materials, hear well enough to detect noises on the unit and have the abilityto discern odors frequently.
• Have the ability to lift and carry 10 pounds frequently, 10-50 pounds occasionally. Have the ability to handle hazardous/infectious waste frequently.
• Have the ability to work in an environment where chemicals are used for cleaning frequently; mechanical and electrical hazards may be present occasionally; dust, mist and steam are generated in housekeeping tasks frequently.
• Be able to remain calm while working efficiently under stressful conditions.
• Must possess good communication skills, to include writing techniques for reports and appeals and verbal presentations for telephone interactions and training seminars.
• Must be able to meet the physical demands of the position to include both sitting for long periods of time and walking the grounds and units of the facility.
• Be capable of the manual dexterity needed to use small business machines.

QUALIFICATIONS

• Education:High school diploma required with a preferred bachelor’s degree in human-related field.
• Experience:At least one (1) year of experience working in a psychiatric hospital intake department or business office preferred.
