Job summary

Brentwood Hospital in Shreveport, LA is seeking an Admissions Nurse - RN to join our psychiatric and chemical dependency treatment team. You will perform initial screenings, admissions assessments, and crisis intervention to support patients and referral sources.

This full-time role offers shift options (weekends and nights) and comprehensive benefits. Louisiana RN licensure is required, with prior intake and crisis intervention experience preferred, to ensure safe, empathetic patient admission

Qualifications

• Associates or Bachelor's Degree in Nursing required.
• Experience with intake, assessment, admission and crisis intervention in psychiatric care.
• Licensed to practice by the Louisiana State Board of Nursing as RN.

Responsibilities

• Perform initial medical screenings.
• Perform admission assessments.
• Assess, direct and intervene in crisis situations.
• Medical screenings - perform nurse-to-nurse screening by phone on patients transferred from other facilities.
• Obtain/document pre-certification on admissions as necessary.
• Basic medical triage: skin checks, wounds, etc.

The Registered Nurse Assessment and Referral Counselor provides telephonic and in-person risk assessment and crisis intervention, initial contact with referral sources and potential patients, coordinates the referral and intake process, determines appropriate level of care, facilitates the admission process and maintains communication with referral sources, families, patients and unit staff.

Qualifications

Education

Associates or Bachelor's Degree in Nursing

Experience:

Prior intake, assessment, admission and crisis intervention experience with a psychiatric mental health population, preferable in an inpatient setting.

Licensure/Certification:

Currently licensed to practice by the Louisiana State Board of Nursing as a Registered Nurse.

Knowledge:

Prefer knowledge of crisis intervention and risk assessment, psychiatric diagnoses symptomatology, basic chemical dependency, age specific growth and development and crisis behavior management.
