Job summary

AAA Washington seeks an Insurance Agent to prospect and sell a range of insurance products (home, auto, life) to AAA members and customers. Our agents may sell both AAA Insurance and other carriers, giving a distinct advantage.

The role is based onsite at our headquarters in Factoria, Bellevue, five days a week until productivity goals are met; after about a year, hybrid or remote options may be considered. You’ll build relationships and deliver excellent service.

Qualifications

  • High School diploma or equivalent.
  • 2+ years in sales or sales management, or 1+ years’ experience in an insurance agency.
  • Washington State Property & Casualty and Life & Disability license (or ability to obtain).

Responsibilities

  • Sell and recommend insurance products offered by carriers represented by the AAA Insurance Agency.
  • Identify and develop sales opportunities using lead management systems and other sources.
  • Respond to all quote requests promptly according to service levels.
  • Identify, evaluate, and provide resolutions to customers’ insurance needs.
  • Develop and enhance relationships with customers to build referrals and repeat business.

This role is responsible for prospecting and selling insurance products (including home, auto, and life) designed to meet the needs of AAA members and customers. Our agents sell both AAA Insurance and other carriers. This gives our sales agents a distinct advantage over captive carrier agents.

This role requires working onsite at our headquarters in Factoria (Bellevue) five days a week until consistent productivity goals are met. Most team members reach this milestone in about 12 months, at which point hybrid or remote work may become an option.

Essential Duties/Responsibilities
  • Sell and make recommendations on all insurance products offered by the carriers represented by the AAA Insurance Agency.
  • Identify and develop sales opportunities by utilizing the lead management system, membership system, and additional lead sources, increasing overall sales and the proportion of member households purchasing AAA Insurance products.
  • Respond to all quote requests in a timely manner according to agency service level agreements.
  • Identify, evaluate, and provide resolutions to customer’s insurance needs.
  • Ensure that all business is underwritten correctly and placed in the appropriate markets according to the risk involved in order to maintain an acceptable loss ratio.
  • Ensure that company Agency Management System and carrier system is appropriately documented and all applications are complete and submitted on a timely basis in accordance with insurance carrier guidelines, agency policies and procedures, and state regulations.
  • Perform appropriate follow-up calls and renewal reviews to meet agency retention standards.
  • Develop and enhance relationships with customers to build referral and repeat business.
  • Demonstrate the ability to consistently meet and exceed personal sales goals and contribute to the agency sales goals.
  • Provide excellent customer service and support the AAA membership model, including selling membership.
  • Contributes to a positive team dynamic through respectful interactions, positive contributions, and active collaboration to achieve department and organizational goals.
  • Incorporates AAA’s vision, mission and values in day-to-day activities and behaviors; guides and motivates others to remain committed to AAA’s vision mission and values.

Minimum Qualifications
  • High School diploma or equivalent.
  • 2+ years in sales or sales management, or 1+ years’ experience in an insurance agency.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Proven ability to perform to goal with a track record of meeting or exceeding goals.
  • Successful track record of growth, with experience sales prospecting and asking for and closing sales.
  • Knowledge of sales techniques, property & casualty products, life insurance products, and insurance processing systems and procedures as well as comparative raters.
Certificates, Licenses, Registrations
  • Possess or able to obtain a Washington State Property & Casualty and Life & Disability insurance license.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities
  • Developing knowledge of personal and commercial lines and life insurance including fundamental insurance principles, underwriting and risk selection, and policy provisions for all agency carriers.
  • Ability to type and a working knowledge of computers, MS Suite, and the internet. Competency using agency & carrier applications and systems.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and professionally both verbally and in writing, and utilize effective listening skills.
  • A strong sense of urgency and willingness to take extra measures when solving problems and getting work completed.
  • Ability to use appropriate interpersonal skills and methods to reduce tension or conflict, relate positively to people in stressful situations, and remain calm under pressure.
  • Ability to address multiple demands and adjust style and approach to suit situations that involve rapidly changing tasks, shifting priorities, simultaneous demands, or transitions into new assignments.

Salary
  • Pay range: $25.30-$30.35 per hour, plus incentives based on sales.

Work Environment & Physical Demands
  • The physical environment is typical of a standard office space. It requires the employee to work inside for the duration of work. Must be able to remain in a stationary position, sitting for more than 50% of the time. This position will require occasionally moving about inside the office to access equipment, cabinets, etc. May work around office equipment which could be noisy, such as copiers and fax machines.
