Erie Family Health Centers is seeking an Insurance Navigator Team Leader to supervise enrollment, retention, and outreach for Medicaid and Marketplace programs. The role supports patient education, enrollment, and timely benefits access across Erie sites in Chicago.

The ideal candidate has 1+ year of customer service experience, proficiency with Epic EHR, and bilingual English/Spanish skills. Hybrid/overnight flexibility may apply based on coverage needs.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• 1+ year of related customer service experience.
• Experience with State insurance enrollment platforms (ABE and Get Covered Illinois).
• Healthcare office experience preferred and managing direct reports is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Screen patients for eligibility and assist with enrollment, retention, and renewal of Medicaid, Marketplace, and other assistance programs.
• Educate patients on coverage options and assist with enrollment in programs.
• Monitor and follow up on applications and inquiries to ensure timely access to coverage.
• Oversee team workloads, QA reviews, and provide coaching and development.
• Participate in leadership meetings and cross-site coverage as needed.

The Insurance Navigator Team Leader will be part of a collaborative team that works to achieve high levels of patient insurance alignment and retention. Including but not limited to patient education, enrollment, alignment and retention into temporary and full Medicaid programs and Marketplace. The Insurance Navigator Team Leader will assist current and interested patients with their insurance needs by ensuring efficient and friendly customer services to the clients of Erie Family Health Centers.

Main Duties & Responsibilities

• Screen patients for eligibility and assist with enrollment, retention, and renewal of Medicaid, Marketplace, and other eligible assistance programs, including MPE, FPPE, and full Medicaid.
• Educate patients on available coverage options and assist with enrollment in programs such as the sliding scale program, IBCCP, Manage My Case, and Medicaid Managed Care plans.
• Conduct patient outreach and provide individualized assistance with applications, redeterminations, eligibility determinations, and insurance-related inquiries.
• Monitor and follow up on pending applications, HFS notices, and requests for additional information to support timely access to coverage and benefits.
• Review and reconcile patient accounts, manage insurance-related work queues, and respond to patient and departmental inquiries through the electronic health record (EHR) system.
• Ensure accurate and timely completion of documentation, including scanning, faxing, printing, and processing required forms and supporting documents.
• Participate in benefit fairs, staff meetings, trainings, and cross-site coverage as needed.
• Travel to other Erie locations and work a flexible schedule, including evenings and weekends, as required.

Team Leader Responsibilities

• Perform all Insurance Navigator functions while providing day-to-day leadership and oversight of the Insurance Navigator team.
• Coordinate staff onboarding, training, coaching, mentorship, and ongoing professional development to ensure compliance with eligibility, enrollment, and workflow standards.
• Assign, monitor, and prioritize team workloads, including Epic work queues, scheduling, and project completion.
• Serve as an escalation point for complex patient coverage, enrollment, and satisfaction concerns, ensuring timely resolution.
• Conduct quality assurance reviews, performance evaluations, one-on-one meetings, and timecard management for direct reports.
• Identify workflow improvement opportunities and partner with leadership to implement solutions that enhance team performance and patient experience.
• Participate in leadership meetings, organizational initiatives, and required leadership development programs.
• Perform other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications: Skills and Knowledge

• Proficient computer skills, with the ability to navigate and use multiple computer systems and applications required
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office products required
• Must be comfortable and efficient in inputting data into the Epic (electronic health record) system
• Bilingual fluency (English/Spanish) preferred

Experience

• At least one (1) year of related experience in a customer service role.
• Previous experience with State insurance enrollment platforms (ABE and Get Covered Illinois)
• Prior healthcare of physician’s office experience preferred
• Prior experience managing direct reports preferred

Education

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• An associate degree or two (2) years of college is a plus.
