Job summary

Kemper Corporation is seeking a Legal Counsel to join our team in a on-site Tampa, FL location. The role focuses on strategizing cases, exercising sound business judgment, and managing urgent responsibilities with a proactive approach.

The ideal candidate has 3+ years as a trial attorney, experience in insurance defense, and active bar admission. Travel may be required, and the position includes a discretionary bonus and comprehensive Kemper benefits.

Qualifications

• 3+ years of experience as a trial attorney.
• Handling of insurance defense work preferred.
• Member of the State Bar with licensing and continuing education requirements.

Responsibilities

• Handles legal work on assigned cases.
• Aggressively pursues files referred to Staff Counsel by the Claims Department.
• Creates and maintains a documented strategy for case handling in each assigned case.
• Develops, organizes and maintains document files consisting of pleadings, briefs and memorandums.
• Prepares and submits timely status reports to claims handlers on all significant activities at 60-day intervals max.
• Ensures all files are properly documented and organized.
• Provides prompt and timely responses to telephone calls and correspondence.
• Utilizes case management software for notes, diary, calendar, billing, etc.
