Job summary

Kemper Corporation seeks a Legal Counsel to work in the Houston, TX area. This role allows you to strategize cases, exercise business judgment, and act with urgency from a remote setting within Houston.

If you are experienced and ready to take on responsibilities quickly, this opportunity may be for you. The candidate should have 3+ years as a trial attorney, insurance defense experience preferred, and active State Bar licensure with ongoing education.

Qualifications

• 3+ years of experience as a trial attorney, insurance defense preferred.
• Active State Bar license and continuing education requirements.
• Willingness to travel as needed.

Responsibilities

• Handles legal work on assigned cases.
• Aggressively pursues files referred to Staff Counsel by the Claims Department.
• Creates and maintains a documented strategy for case handling in each assigned case to include a synopsis of the factors involved.
• Develops, organizes and maintains document files consisting of pleadings, briefs and memorandums.
• Prepares and submits timely status reports to claims handlers on all significant activities at or before 60-day intervals.
• Ensures that all files are properly documented and organized.
• Provides prompt and timely responses to all telephone calls and correspondence.
• Utilizes case management software for maintaining notes, diary, calendar, billing, etc.
