Job summary

Hinshaw & Culbertson LLP in New York seeks a Litigation Paralegal with experience in insurance defense and general civil litigation to support attorneys throughout the litigation lifecycle.

The role involves researching law, investigating facts, and preparing documents for attorneys, as well as managing case files, drafting discovery, subpoenas, and trial materials, and coordinating with experts. Excellent organizational skills and familiarity with e-discovery tools are preferred.

Qualifications

• Five years or more of general civil litigation experience.
• Experience reviewing medical records and preparing medical chronologies preferred.
• Bachelor’s degree preferred.

Responsibilities

• Continual review and management of case files from inception through mediation/arbitration/trial/settlement.
• Prepare subpoenas governing document productions.
• Prepare initial discovery (interrogatories, requests for production, requests for admissions).
• Prepare draft responses to discovery, including document productions and privilege logs.
• Review medical records and prepare medical chronologies.
• Prepare attorneys for depositions.
• Prepare deposition summaries/abstracts.
• Research, vet and engage with subject matter experts.
• Monitor deadlines for responses and timeliness.
• Prepare legal documents such as briefs, pleadings, and trial binders.
• Investigate facts as requested by attorneys.
• Capture and record billable time per firm policies.
• Trial preparation – prepare subpoenas, notebooks, exhibit/witness lists; manage witnesses; schedule testimony; assist with trial presentations.
• Attend trial as necessary.
