Insurance Defense Attorney - Remote within LA, OC, Long Beach, Riverside or San Bernardino

The Insurance Defense Attorney, Staff Counsel will work to defend Wawanesa customers in low-to-moderate complexity and/or risk bodily injury and property damage liability lawsuits.

This role will work from home (remote) within the following locations: Los Angeles, Orange County, Long Beach, Riverside or San Bernardino.

We are open to hiring either a Trial Attorney I or Trial Attorney II, depending on the candidate's experience.

Job Duties

1. Complete all tasks necessary to prepare low-to-moderate complexity and/or risk bodily injury and property damage liability lawsuits against Wawanesa insureds for mediation, pre-trial, trial, and post-trial resolution, with minimal supervision.
2. Assist more experienced attorneys on portions of higher complexity matters.
3. Prepare and handle pleadings, motions, discovery, depositions, and other tasks necessary for proper representation.
4. Recognize, promote, and effectively negotiate settlement opportunities, including liability and damages.
5. Review and evaluate assigned cases according to Wawanesa's policies. Work with insureds and Claims Department to establish, communicate, and implement litigation objectives and achieve prompt resolution.

Qualifications

1. Juris Doctorate degree and member in good standing of the California Bar.
2. More than 3 years of insurance defense litigation experience with case handling in low-to-moderate severity, complexity, and/or risk cases.
3. Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal skills for working with internal and external contacts, and for preparing reports and correspondence.
4. Proficiency with Microsoft Office and WestLaw.
5. Strong communication, organization, prioritization, and multi-tasking skills.
6. Strong legal research skills.
7. Ability to lift up to 5 lbs daily.
8. Ability to travel up to 15% of the time.

The pay range for this position is $99,797 - $149,695 annually, depending on experience. This position is considered exempt under wage-hour law.
