Job summary

Progressive Insurance is seeking an insurance defense attorney to join our Bodily Injury litigation team in Maryland. You will provide legal representation for Progressive insureds before courts and arbitration panels, handling cases from inception to resolution, preparing pleadings, motions, statements, and trial briefs while negotiating settlements.

• Juris doctor degree or Master of Laws (LLM) and a minimum of 2 years general/auto litigation experience.
• Admitted to practice law in the state of Maryland.

Responsibilities

• Provide litigation representation for Progressive insureds in auto/Bodily Injury matters from start to finish.
• Prepare pleadings, motions, statements, trial briefs and negotiate settlements.
• Work with clients and claims partners to report on litigation and assess claim risk.
• Review discovery, depositions, medical records and determine claim value.

As an insurance defense attorney within our Bodily Injury litigation team, you’ll be a part of our motor vehicle insurance defense litigation team, providing legal representation to Progressive insureds and/or to the Progressive Insurance Companies before courts and arbitration panels in all aspects of litigation. Handling cases from beginning to end, you’ll also prepare legal pleadings, motions, statements, trial briefs and be involved in negotiating settlements. Additionally, you’ll work closely with clients and claims partners to prepare timely reports on litigation, ensuring all appropriate defenses are leveraged to reach positive outcomes. Other tasks will include analyzing written discovery, depositions, medical records and assessing the value of claims to determine risk exposure.

This is a hybrid position with occasional travel to an office for meetings and/or training.

Minimum Qualifications

• Juris doctor degree or Master of Laws (LLM) and a minimum of 2 years general/auto litigation experience
• Admitted to practice law in the state of Maryland

Compensation

• $147,056 - $181,300/year
• Gainshare annual cash incentive payment up to 40% of your eligible earnings based on company performance
