Insurance Defense and Coverage Attorney - While predominantly remote work is allowed, candidates must reside in Arizona to attend court and in-person meetings approximately 1 to 3 times per month. Fresh JD grads should expect to be in the office more often until up to speed.

Position Overview

An established, highly respected law firm in Phoenix, Arizona, is seeking skilled attorneys specializing in insurance defense and coverage to join its growing team. This role offers a supportive environment with mentorship for new associates, fostering independence and initiative. The ideal candidate for the insurance defense role should bring experience handling third-party tort cases. This may include managing claims involving automobile and trucking accidents, dram shop liability, products liability, premises liability, construction defects, and defending governmental or municipal entities.

Compensation And Benefits

  • Competitive salary, determined based on experience and qualifications
  • Minimum annual billable hours requirement: 1,850 – bonus tied to hours / collections
  • Bonus eligibility linked to both hours billed and collections
  • Associate level base salary, $110,000 - $130,000 base salary (0-5 years): estimated $15,000+ bonus, with potential for higher payouts
  • Member level base salary, $130,000 - $150,000 base salary (5-7 years): estimated bonus potential of $60,000 to $90,000
  • Senior level base salary $150,000+ (8+ years): Bonus aligned with base salary (estimate double for on target earnings / total compensation)
  • Senior attorneys with equity status: Additional performance-based incentives

Position Requirements

  • Experience with reviewing and interpreting insurance policies, including personal lines, commercial general liability, and specialty lines
  • Familiarity with coverage litigation, bad faith disputes, and related legal matters
  • Experience handling third-party tort cases, including automobile and trucking accidents, dram shop liability, products liability, premises liability, construction defects, and defending governmental or municipal entities

Preferred Experience and Skills

  • Graduated within the top 20% of law school
  • Participation in law review and/or moot court
  • At least one year of civil litigation experience
  • Active member of the Arizona State Bar
  • Strong research, writing, and analytical skills
  • Attention to detail, deposition, and court experience
  • Proficiency in legal research tools and office software like Westlaw, Microsoft Office
