Odyssey Behavioral Healthcare is seeking an Insurance Collections Specialist to identify and resolve outstanding insurance balances and support timely payment processing. The role partners with finance and revenue cycle teams and engages with payers to improve cash flow.

Responsibilities include processing claims, appeals, and refunds while ensuring strict confidentiality of patient financial data across multiple facilities in our national network.

Qualifications

  • Requires a high school diploma; a bachelor's degree is preferred.
  • Demonstrated experience with insurance billing policies and practices.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities in a fast-paced environment.

Responsibilities

  • Processes outstanding insurance claims to resolution.
  • Tracks insurance appeals through the appeals process.
  • Manages coordination of benefits and coverage issues.
  • Reports reimbursement trends and barriers to leadership.
  • Maintains aging reports and patient balance statements as needed.
  • Reviews EOBs and postings to validate overpayments and refunds.
  • Ensures compliance with federal, state, and payer regulations.
  • Investigates overpayments, incorrect payments, or duplicates.

This role supports financial integrity by reducing outstanding receivables and communicating with payers.Relationships and ContactsWithin the organization: Maintains close and frequent contact with the finance and revenue cycle team members within both the facility-based teams and Odyssey.Outside the organization: Maintains close and frequent contact with insurance providers and third-party vendors, as necessary.Position ResponsibilitiesEssential Responsibilities1. Processes outstanding insurance claims to point of resolution.2. Tracks insurance appeals needed throughout the appeals process.3. Processes coordination of benefit and coverage termed issues.4. Reports insurance reimbursement trends and barriers to leadership.5. Manages aging reports and prepares patient balance statements as necessary6. Reviews Explanation of Benefits (EOBs) and payment postings to validate overpayments and support refund decisions7. Ensures compliance with all federal, state, and payer-specific refund regulations and timelines8. Researches and resolves issues related to overpayments, incorrect payments, or duplicate payments9. Maintains strict confidentiality of all patients financial and healthcare information.Additional Responsibilities1. Abides by all company policies and procedures.2.
