Job summary

Great River Health Systems is seeking a billing specialist to coordinate insurance reimbursements and file claims. You will handle electronic billing, verify data, and fix discrepancies while updating records and contacting patients as needed.

Responsibilities include preparing claims, following up on denials, reconciling balances, and communicating with insurers, patients, and internal teams to ensure timely payments.

Qualifications

• H.S. Diploma or GED required; basic computer skills mandatory.
• 1-3 years experience; customer service preferred.
• Familiarity with Microsoft Office applications.

Responsibilities

• Prepare insurance claim forms and related documents and review them for accuracy and completeness.
• Follow-up on rejected, unpaid and denied claims until claims are paid or only self-pay balance remains.
• Investigate and resolve any billing discrepancies or insurance-related issues, working closely with insurance providers, patients, and internal teams.
• Reconcile accounts and maintain accurate balances.
• Perform AR follow up on aging accounts.
• Transmit claims for payment or further investigation.
• Contact insured or other involved persons to obtain missing information or resolve billing issues.
• Review insurance policy to determine coverage.
• Research payer websites, using computers to enter, access, search, and retrieve data.
• Provide customer service, such as assisting with inquiries and billing requests.
• Monitor for missing information, authorization/control numbers.
