Job summary

TIC - The Industrial Company in Texas is seeking an insulation installer to apply, remove, and repair insulation on boilers, pipes, tanks, and ductwork using fiberglass, cork, and urethane.

You will read blueprints, select materials, measure and cut, fit around obstructions, and seal surfaces. This role requires standing, climbing, and exposure to outdoor conditions at construction sites.

Qualifications

• Strong practical knowledge and abilities for the position.

• Proficient with electrical, hand, and power tools and measurement tools.

Responsibilities

• Read blueprints and other documentation to plan insulation work.
• Select appropriate insulation materials based on heat retention and surface conditions.
• Move materials and set up work sites on industrial equipment.
• Install and finish insulation, seal surfaces, and secure with covers and tape.
• Inspect work for compliance with plans and safety requirements.
• Follow hazard waste handling guidelines and pass pre-access safety checks.

Job description

Apply, remove, and repair insulation on equipment, boilers, pipes, tanks ductwork, or other mechanical systems with insulating materials, such as fiberglass, cork, plastic, and magnesia.

Primary Responsibilities and Duties

• Reads and interprets blue prints, instructions, and other documentation or plan work activities.
• Determines the amounts and selects required insulation material such as fiberglass, foam rubber, Styrofoam, cork, or urethane, based on material's ability to retain heat, location, surface, shape, and equipment use.
• Moves materials and equipment to work locations and sets up work site.
• Cover, seal, or finish insulated surfaces or access holes with plastic covers, canvas strips, sealants, tape, cement or asphalt mastic.
• Fit insulation around obstructions, and shape insulating materials and protective coverings as required.
• Install sheet metal around insulated pipes to protect the insulation from weather conditions or physical damage.
• Measure and cut insulation for covering surfaces and prepare surfaces for insulation application.
• Covers or seals insulation with preformed plastic covers, canvas strips, sealant, or tape to secure insulation to structure, according to type of insulation used and structure covered, using staple gun, trowel, paintbrush, or caulking gun.
• Follows all hazardous waste handling guidelines.
• Estimating sizes, distances, and quantities; or determining time, costs, resources, or materials needed to perform a work activity.
• Inspect subordinate's work for compliance with the contract plans and specifications, point out deficiencies and explain and take any corrective action needed.

Qualifications

• May require a high school diploma or its equivalent with previous years of experience in the field or in a related area.
• Must possess strong working knowledge skills and abilities for position.
• Ability to understand, follow and transmit written and oral instructions and communicate effectively with management/supervision.
• Proficient in the safe and efficient use of electrical, hand tools, power tools and layout tools as well as measurement tools

Requirements

• The person in this position needs to constantly move about a construction/industrial site, so should be able to stand, walk, sit, reach, stoop, kneel, crouch, and/or crawl
• Constantly works in a construction environment and will be exposed to changing outdoor weather conditions
• Work irregular hours, weekends, overtime and holidays as required
• May be required to use ladders/mechanical platforms/manlifts/scaffold to access required equipment/work areas (may exceed 200 feet), so must be able to climb and maintain balance on formwork, steel formwork, stairs, ladders and scaffolds
• Move and work in and around confined and cluttered places, and uneven surfaces
• Must be able to complete tasks in a noisy and dusty environment
• May be required/able to move items weighing up to 50 pounds across construction/industrial site
• Must have required tools
• Observe and comply with all safety and project rules, perform other duties as required
• Ability to pass pre-access drug and alcohol testing, fit for duty medical and background check
